Throat Chakra Guitar Meditation for Creativity
by Mary Aranas
Vissudha, throat chakra, is our unique voice in the world; whether we are visual artists, writers, dancers, teachers, gardeners, or caregivers, we create through our word and action the visions of our heart and soul. Keeping that channel open means we contribute to the expansion and wonder of the world; it also means a strong immunity and openhearted, joyful self-expression in the world. For today's throat chakra,
Vishuddha meditation,
We're going to have one pranayama,
Breath practice,
One kriya,
Purification practice that follows the breath,
And three healing cervical spine affirmation sets for our neck and throat chakra.
So please get ready to begin by placing your spine in a very comfortable position.
If you are in a seated meditation,
Make sure that you are sustainably comfortable in your posture.
You might have back support,
Such as a straight back chair,
A bolster behind your back,
Or simply seated up upon a cushion.
For this particular meditation,
It is preferable to have a more upright spine.
So if you are inclined to be resting,
Do have an inclined support underneath your back,
Just so the spine is not curved in upon itself.
And we begin with the square breath,
Called square because it is a four count of in,
Holding in,
Out,
And then holding out.
So you will inhale through the nose to a count of one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Hold it in for four,
Three,
Two,
One,
Exhale through lips for three,
Two,
One,
Hold it out for four,
Three,
Two,
One,
Good.
Inhale through nose one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Retain it for three,
Two,
One,
Exhale through lips for three,
Two,
One,
Hold it out for four,
Three,
Two,
One,
Once again in through nose one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Hold it in for three,
Two,
One,
Exhale through lips for three,
Two,
One,
Keep it out,
Hold it out for three,
Two,
One,
You do it again on your own,
Four count.
Each is a four count.
You can see why it's called a square breath.
Each is a four count.
And one more time when you complete it.
Very even,
Very grounding,
Toning our breathing muscles.
When you complete your square breath,
Just allow the breath to be natural and restful.
And notice how your body feels.
It is a good reset.
All we did was three rounds together and then two rounds on your own of the square breath.
The inhale is through the nose and the exhale is more relaxing when it's through lips.
That's why we invite that for meditation.
And now the second practice is technically a Kriya.
That is to say purification practice.
Kriyas are said to purify our physiological cells as well as our psychological,
Our mental energy channels,
Our karmic,
Our action energies if you are inclined to think that way.
And it actually tracks a breath,
Works with a breath,
But it is a Kriya purification rather than a pranayama breath practice technically.
You will imagine that you are beginning the breath at the base of your spine and that on the inhale you are drawing a straight line up the center of the front of the body,
Your belly,
Belly button,
Chest,
Right to the throat and then it's crossing to the back of the neck,
Traveling up the back of the neck,
Top of head.
On the exhale it's traveling down the front center line of your forehead,
Face,
Chin,
Throat,
Crosses at the back of the neck and goes down the back of your spine.
So the inhale is a straight line up the front of your torso,
Crosses at the clavicle notch,
Goes up the back of your neck,
Head.
The exhale comes down the front of your face,
Crosses at the same C7 low neck and goes down the back of your torso,
Curling around to your tailbone perineum.
Continue this inhaling all through the nose,
Up the front torso,
Back of neck and the exhaling down the front of face and back of torso.
Yeah,
Continue to find this for yourself.
It makes a very long skinny figure eight shape if you wish to envision it with the cross of the eight being right at the base of the neck throat,
The C7 on your spine.
And it's as though you were a doll that were glued together,
The right half and left half.
And this breath is tracing the seam upwards in the front of the chest,
Torso,
Back of neck,
Head and downwards in the front of the face,
Head,
Back of the torso.
So as you continue this,
You might find your body slightly waving,
Undulating.
Allow it to do that if it helps you to track this long skinny figure eight track of the breath or you might see it actually as an infinity sign,
An infinity loop just with the top part of it being slightly smaller,
The throat to top of head and the bottom part of it being longer,
The throat to the tailbone.
Finding how this figure eight,
What we call orbit breath,
Infinity breath,
It makes you very internally focused,
Very consciously aware of the length of your inhale and the length of your of your exhale.
Continue to inhale up front torso,
Back of neck,
Head and to exhale down front of face,
Back of torso.
And as you continue this,
If you are inclined and able to synchronize an inner sound,
Try adding an inner syllable to each movement to make it more meditative.
When you are inhaling and the sound hum,
H-a-m,
And when you are exhaling and the sound sa,
S-a-h.
So the inhale hum,
Front torso,
Back of neck,
Head,
The exhale sa,
Front of face,
Back of torso to the perineum,
And let that infinity undulation figure eight breath have that song if it serves you.
So hum in Sanskrit means I am and sa means truth as in sat,
Sat,
Truth.
So your breath is singing I am truth.
I am truth.
And this is a particularly throat chakra balancing infinity,
Orbit breath,
Loop,
Because the crossing of inhale and exhale are both happening right at the base of the cervical spine,
The clavicle notch,
C7,
At the base of the neck.
And it helps to lengthen the back of the neck and to create a flexibility and an openness in the neck and in the throat.
So allow yourself a couple more loops of this skinny figure eight.
It's kind of hypnotic,
Really nice for premeditation or as a meditation in and of itself.
Yes,
Energetically you can let it go whenever you wish.
Energetically the inhale is said to clear our future karma,
If you will,
Like a blank page in front of us for us to be brave and open to write whatever we wish on our future day moment page.
And the exhale is said to clear our past karma,
Our actions,
As though all depths behind us are forgiven,
All accounts closed,
And we are free to be in the present to move forward with presence,
With our breath.
And now in the state that this Kriya has brought you to,
The square breath pranayama,
Breath practice,
And then the orbit breath Kriya purification,
Hopefully have both brought you to a very present centered space.
I'm going to draw from the Queen of Affirmations,
Louise Hay.
Her book,
Heal Your Body,
Particularly three of the sets of affirmations for the cervical spine as they relate to the issues of throat chakra,
Which are communication with ourselves and with others,
And self-expression,
Connection.
Here are the affirmations for C4 in the neck.
I am clear in my communication with life.
I am free to enjoy life right now.
So you might picture in the throat neck area the color turquoise,
Your unique creative blend of blue and green.
That is the color that clairvoyants and sometimes artists and children can see around the neck throat area,
The color for throat chakra.
And once again affirmations for cervical vertebra 4.
I am clear in my communication with life.
I am free to enjoy life right now.
Just breathe that in,
Inhale that,
And exhale release it.
Beautiful.
Featuring the beautiful blue green turquoise and floating on your collarbones,
Touching the roof of your mouth,
A shimmering white oval,
That is the visual symbol for throat chakra,
A white oval like an egg,
Smoky gray or white oval,
Like the symbol of an egg which is potential life,
Birth,
Our word,
Our creativity,
Our communication as yet unhatched,
New birth,
New life.
And here now are the affirmations for cervical spine 5,
C5 in the neck.
My communication is clear.
I accept my good.
I let go of all expectations.
I am loved and I am safe.
Feel those affirmations as though they were nurturing that white oval,
Your word,
Your birth,
Your creativity.
As though you had a jewel polishing cloth and you were polishing that white jewel egg in your throat,
As once again I repeat,
These words they are polishing,
Vishuddha,
Your throat chakra.
My communication is clear.
I accept my good.
I let go of all expectations.
I am loved and I am safe.
Breathe in all that you feel with those affirmations and let it go on your exhale.
Picturing the blue green turquoise of the throat and that beautiful shimmering,
Go ahead and allow it to have whatever light facets.
Refractions of light your creative imagination might picture.
And now we arrive at the affirmations for cervical spine 6,
The last of our three sets that we're going to use today.
I lovingly release others to their own lessons.
I lovingly care for myself.
I lovingly care for myself.
I move with ease through life.
Breathe that in as though the egg were shifting,
Moving,
About to birth itself to hatch and breathe it out with a connection,
A nurturing,
A care and an appreciation for your own creative word,
Your unique voice,
Your Vishuddha child.
And now as though you were nurturing it one last time with these affirmations,
Hear them polish your magic jewel egg.
I lovingly release others to their own lessons.
I lovingly care for myself.
I move with ease through life.
And sip in a delicious breath and release it back out.
And feel yourself appreciating and honoring that beautiful,
Unique,
Jewel egg floating in the turquoise field of your Vishuddha,
Which means purification.
That's the name of your throat chakra.
I close today by offering you two sounds that if you wish you may sound now and keep to sound with you whenever you need through your days.
One sound helps to remove the block of throat chakra.
Since throat chakra is about speaking and hearing the truth,
It removes the block of lies,
Half truths,
Unspoken truths,
And the sound is ee.
So the long vowel ee.
Take a deep breath in to join me with that.
Ee Beautiful.
Use it for yourself whenever you need to erase writer's block,
Singer's block,
Communicator's block,
Artist's block.
And the second sound is the sound that nurtures and polishes that jewel egg or throat chakra.
The seed sound is what we call it.
The seed sound for throat chakra is h-a-m pronounced.
H-a-m pronounced hum.
You'll notice that even just making that huh sound there's a softening,
A lubricating,
And an opening of your throat,
Your larynx.
Therefore we will use three hums on one exhale to maximize that ha part of it.
So soft,
So nurturingly,
Silently,
Softly,
Or loudly as you wish.
Three hums.
Take a deep breath in.
Hum.
Hum.
Hum.
May you delight in your own creative self-expression,
And your communication,
And your voice.
We have the right to speak and hear the truth,
Honoring Vishuddha this week and always.
The light in me salutes the light in you.
Namaste.
