
Love What You Do

The theme today,
Loving what you do,
So often we get lost in this I'll be happy when mindset.
And I'll be happy when I get that job.
I'll be happy when I get that relationship.
I'll be happy when I am retired or I get on vacation.
I'll be happy when I'm doing something that I love to do.
And I understand this,
I fall into this as well and I fall into promoting this as well.
I have a course on here that's called Learn to Do Work that you love.
I'm really passionate about helping people to share their gifts and to find their purpose and to live it in this world.
However,
When you see that course,
You forget or I think it can be a little bit misguided as to where that actually starts.
I was reminded of something really important that I talk about in this course while I was reading this book,
One of my favorite authors called Seth Godin.
This book called The Practice and in it he was talking about how doing what we love is not actually what we should be focusing on.
Instead,
The mantra to remember is to love what we do.
And I love this because what it does is it shifts us from the outcome thinking where it's like,
Okay,
When I get to there,
Then I'll be happy.
It shifts us to what we were just talking about into process,
Into how can I bring love into my current situation?
How can I bring joy?
How can I bring whatever it is that I'm trying to bring into my life?
We have it all right here and now.
We're looking for a feeling in the future.
How can I bring that feeling into my life right now?
And in this way,
It becomes kind of a meditation.
When we catch ourselves in that future focused thinking,
We say,
Wait a second,
Wait a second,
I have everything in me.
I know what love is like.
I know what joy is like.
I know what fulfillment is like.
How do I bring that energy into my life today?
And by doing so,
What we find is that we have an incredible impact on the people that we come across.
And what we'll see is that as we are joyful and fulfilled,
We will start bringing into our lives those things that maybe we do have a vision for and we do have goals for.
And so I want to share actually a comment from my course,
Learn to Do Work You Love,
Because I think it really nails down what we're trying to talk about today.
And she said,
Your course helped me find new purpose in my current work.
I had previously been seeking externally to find some other job to bring me joy,
But I decided to bring joy to what I currently have.
Since then,
I've been more open,
Expressed gratitude to my coworkers,
And focused more on what we accomplished rather than what we had left to do.
Besides helping me feel better,
I have seen such a ripple effect from this action.
Others are being more grateful and positive as well,
And we are finally getting time off and the recognition for our efforts.
I now see that my job as a software engineer is more than just writing code.
It's about raising my vibration and helping others do the same.
I love this.
So whatever you do,
Whether it's a job,
Whether it's your family,
Whether it's your day,
It's like how can you see it as more than just the specifics of what you do?
But understand that as we raise our consciousness,
As we raise our vibration,
That we are going to have this incredible ripple effect and this credible impact on the world just from who we are.
And I think this is what Gandhi was getting at with his famous quote that I'm sure you've seen before of,
Be the change that you wish to see in the world.
He didn't say,
Go change the world.
He said to be the change.
Instead of seeking joy,
Bring the joy.
Instead of seeking love,
Be love.
Instead of trying to find your passion or to find your purpose,
Be passionate,
Be purposeful,
And bring that into your life.
And what we'll see is that that is where we actually start to bring those things in.
Vision is great.
I'm not saying don't have goals,
Don't have a vision,
Absolutely.
But once we have that vision,
Okay,
How can I bring in the energy into my day right now?
Can I bring in that strength,
That love?
And so that's what we're going to work on today in our meditation is to create that energy within us and to see it and hopefully set up our day,
Set up our week to have that impact on ourselves and to have that impact on others.
So let's start to move inwards.
I know that when you're listening to me talk,
It's an outer experience.
So seeing if you can shift into your own inner experience,
Allowing your body to take any movements that it needs to take to get settled.
And beginning to find a place of stillness,
Feeling the connection of your body into your chair or your cushion or your bed.
And really just getting a good sense of your body and where it is located.
Feeling the rootedness of your sits bones connecting to the ground.
Find a little length through the torso.
The shoulders melt down the back.
Maybe a gentle broadening through the chest.
Start to invite softness through the forehead.
Softness around the eyelids.
And imagine as if your eyes are kind of sinking back into the socket.
Maybe even sensing that your eyes are dropping down into your heart.
And continuing that wave of softness through any area that feels tight in your body today.
And then bringing in the awareness into your breath to help you to further settle.
So sensing the quality of the air as it moves in,
Filling up your body.
And sensing the warm air move out,
Releasing and relaxing you further into the support beneath you.
And so often in our practice we are working with keeping ourselves present.
And so in that way as we mentioned before it's kind of what we're doing in our life as well.
Noticing when we're thinking about some future happiness or some future thing and seeing if we can bring back to our moment.
And so noticing if your mind's wandering to the to-do's of today or the million other places it wants to go.
And use your breath to invite it back.
Bringing yourself back to what is here right now.
And that is the practice.
And sensing that depth of your heart.
The ease of the breath.
And then together with me let's take a full conscious breath in.
And let that go.
And so we're going to start with that visioning because I remember saying that the vision is important.
And so let's start there.
And so I want you to think about something that you're hoping to bring into your life.
Maybe something that you want to achieve in the future.
It might be something that you told yourself that you need to get.
And it's not saying that we shouldn't achieve but we must remember that if we rest our happiness on that future we'll never catch it.
And so whatever it is really bring to mind what is that feeling that you're hoping this is going to bring into your life.
Joy,
Love,
Connection,
Security.
And once you have that vision clearly of what that might be see if you can really allow your body to experience the feeling of it right here.
And what would that goal achieved feel like?
And seeing if you can radiate that energy into your body.
And I'd like you to thank yourself for aspiring to this.
Thank your mind for having this vision,
For wanting this for you.
And I'd like us to practice surrendering the outcome.
And so you may surrender it to a higher energy,
Maybe you call that God,
The universe,
Or maybe you just surrender it to the goodwill.
Because whatever it happens it won't define you because you already have all that you need right here and now.
And so once you've just surrendered it,
Letting it go,
Letting it do its work.
Let's work to embrace all that is here and now.
And so you're welcome to repeat these words to yourself or you're welcome to just receive and to listen.
I have everything I need right here and now to be fulfilled.
I have everything I need right here and now to be joyful.
I have everything I need right here and now to be loved.
I have everything I need right here and now to be at peace.
We're going to go through that one more time and as we do really try and sense that energy that is already here.
I have everything I need right here and now to be fulfilled.
I have everything I need right here and now to be joyful.
I have everything I need right here and now to be loved.
I have everything I need right here and right now to be at peace.
Really feeling yourself giving these energies to yourself.
If we give to ourselves we can then flow out to others.
And there's this philosophy and spirituality when we let it go we get it all back.
When we let go of the outcome we start to bring in that which we are.
And so together let's take a full breath in and a full breath out.
Instead of wanting joy bring it.
Instead of seeking love be it.
Instead of needing proof trust it.
Gandhi famously said be the change you wish to see in the world.
So I'd like you to bring your energy into your solar plexus,
The third chakra,
Your center of strength,
Your center of power,
Really feeling it at your core.
And as you feel this energy at your core I want you to imagine that a yellow light was encompassing your entire body.
And as you breathe feel your strength and feel your power that's here.
Imagine that yellow light grow brighter,
Grow wider,
Feeling your energy field expand.
And I'd like you to think about what you do,
Whether that's for work,
Whether that's throughout your day.
And I want you to imagine yourself going through your day with this light.
And thinking about every person that comes across this light is receiving your strength.
And so just thinking about who is going to benefit from this strength.
And if it helps you to brighten this energy you're welcome to silently repeat to yourself,
I am stable,
I am strong.
I am stable,
I am strong.
And now I'd like you to move the energy from your solar plexus and bring it up into your heart.
Maybe you feel again that expanse of the chest as you go there.
Imagine that you can feel this energy swirling behind your heart and that yellow light that was consuming you is now turning into a green light.
And remember in our practice,
I have everything I need right here and now to be loved.
That is because this heart is radiating that love.
It's always here.
This is who you are.
And so imagine each breath is light and this love growing brighter,
Your energy expanding outwards.
Letting yourself soak up this love.
Some masters talk about samadhi as waves of ecstatic love.
So imagining that you're in that wave field.
And then again think about yourself going through your day with this energy.
You don't need to do what you love,
You are love.
It permeates every encounter,
Every person you come across.
And so imagine this love having an impact on your day and the people that need to receive it.
And as you do this,
If it's supportive,
Repeating to yourself,
I am love.
I am love.
And then we're going to move it up to our last chakra that we're going to work with.
So imagining the energy at your throat.
And feel that that green color now moves into a blue.
And see that energy growing,
Still holding your whole body.
And our words and our voice can have such a huge impact.
And so thinking how can you bring positive encouragement into your day?
Who can you light up?
Who can you send that text to?
Who can you support?
We need your voice.
And so imagining this energy as you go through your day,
Go through your week,
Speaking positively,
Consciously with intention to all those that you come across.
Feeling that energy radiating,
Feeling that compassion from your voice.
And then if it's supportive,
You're welcome to repeat to yourself,
My voice is kind.
My voice is needed.
My voice is kind.
My voice is needed.
And then lastly,
Let's feel the connection of all that we worked on.
So feel again the energy of your solar plexus,
Feeling like that energy is connected to your heart and then connected to your throat.
And almost like there's a line of energy that's moving up and down these three parts.
Feeling that energy circulating through.
And imagining that all those three colors merge into a crystal white light.
And from this bright light asking,
How can this impact my world?
How can I impact my world?
And not needing to find an answer.
Seeing this light go through your day and just know that by you being this energy,
You will have a ripple effect.
People will experience that as you walk into a room.
You will bring more love into your life.
And by that you will love what you do no matter what that is.
Because you have everything you need already inside of you.
And so see yourself moving through your day,
Through your week,
Through your life,
Holding this energy.
And then together let's take one last full breath in.
And breath out.
Gently starting to come back into your body sitting here in your chair.
And remembering this energy.
Asking how can I bring this into my work,
How can I bring this into my life,
My relationships?
And how can I share this with others?
And then when you feel complete,
There is no rush,
You can stay here as long as you like.
And if you're ready to come back to let this energy out into the day,
You can open your eyes and come back to our virtual space.
