When we feel depleted, stressed, or lost, we can choose to treat ourselves with love and kindness. We can give ourselves the hug or encouragement we need, releasing oxytocin into the body to make us feel loved and safe. In this meditation, we recognise the qualities we love about ourselves and notice how they makes us feel inside. We recognise any emotions that come up when we think about these qualities and note that they belong to us.

Come to sitting upright on a chair in a way that your posture is dignified and alert.

Making sure that your feet are firmly planted on the ground and your body is held by the chair.

If needed have your back supported.

Coming to presence through your posture.

Then bring your attention to your breath.

Feel your body filling and emptying of air with each breath.

Feeling your lungs expanding with each in-breath,

Relaxing with each out-breath.

And now letting go of your breath and bring to mind the quality of yourself that you really love.

Maybe you love your humor because it brightens up your days.

Maybe you love that you're a good listener because it makes you feel connected to other people.

So thinking of something you love about yourself and bring to mind recent situations where this quality came to life.

And notice how bringing up this quality makes you feel inside.

Happy,

Excited or calm.

Now as you're keeping this quality in mind you might notice that your mind drifts off.

Maybe you have a thought and thought like yeah I do like this quality but I also have lots of qualities that I don't like about myself.

Or your mind drifts off to something completely different.

When this happens just notice that this is absolutely normal.

All minds drift off all the time.

Just notice that your mind is drifted off and then gently bring your attention back to this quality that you love about yourself.

And now bring to mind a new quality that you love about yourself.

One that brightens your life and maybe even the lives of others.

And stay with that quality for a while bringing up examples of when it has recently happened.

And let yourself feel all the emotions that come with bringing up this quality.

And now bring up one more quality that you love about yourself and let it fill your mind and body.

Now bring to mind other qualities you like about yourself.

One by one.

If you can't think of any more just hold the ones in your awareness that you've already brought to mind.

And know that no one can take those qualities away from you.

They're yours.

And now letting go of those qualities and come back to your breath.

Notice how your breath is now.

The end of this meditation.

Following your breath.

Then when you're ready,

Letting go of your breath.

Then opening your eyes and coming back.
