Do you struggle to set clear boundaries? Do you find that you tend to overapologise? Are you constantly asking others for reassurance? Is it hard for you to communicate with others about your wants and needs? Would you describe yourself as a people-pleaser? This exercise will help you acknowledge and validate yourself and empower you to care for yourself as much as you care for others.

Loosen any tight clothing,

Remove your shoes,

And sit or lie down in a comfortable position.

And when you're ready,

Slowly close your eyes.

Now take three deep breaths all the way into your abdomen.

Exhale slowly with each breath.

And as you exhale,

Breathe out all the tension from your body.

Release all the tension and worries of the day.

Now breathe in your own easy and relaxed way.

And as you breathe,

Think about how people-pleasing is affecting you and your relationships with others.

Acknowledge to yourself that people-pleasing has become a problem.

And make a commitment to yourself to make the changes you need to bring about balance in your life.

You are becoming more willing to take care of yourself,

To be kind to yourself as you are to others.

Remember that you are okay just as you are.

You do not need to search for worth outside of yourself.

It's time to let go of unhelpful thoughts and fears that drive you to respond in ways that are unhealthy for you and for your relationships.

It's time to look inside yourself and give yourself the validation that you have been seeking from others.

It's time to give yourself the reassurance that you need that you are enough.

Place your hand on your heart and say the following to yourself.

I am enough.

I accept myself.

I will be a friend to myself.

I will take care of myself because I deserve care.

I will be kind to myself just as I am to others.

I will please others out of love,

Not out of fear or insecurity.

I accept myself fully just as I am.

I feel free to be who I am.

I acknowledge both my strengths and the areas I want to improve.

I validate myself as an imperfect human.

I reassure myself that my needs and wants,

My thoughts,

Perspectives,

And my feelings are valid.

I allow myself to give and receive love,

Kindness,

And acceptance.

I am worthy.

I am kind.

I am me.

Allow yourself to feel the unconditional love flowing through your body as you fully accept yourself in this moment.

Notice how your body feels as you turn your mind towards self-acceptance,

Self-validation,

And self-assurance.

Your heart is full and filled with light.

Your mind is calm and you are able to observe your unhelpful thoughts and fears without being ruled by them.

You are free from self-judgment,

Self-criticism,

And other unhelpful beliefs that have held you back from being you and showing people who you are.

You are able to fully accept your strengths and imperfections,

Knowing that they form a complete human that is you.

You feel a wave of relaxation envelop your entire body,

And as you breathe in and out,

You say to yourself,

I am worthy.

I am kind.

I am me.

You are feeling calm,

Peaceful,

And relaxed.

Remember this feeling.

Let your mind and body appreciate this state.

A quiet and warm energy fills your body.

Notice how relaxed and yet how strong you are feeling,

And as I count back from five to one,

You will feel more and more alert.

Five.

Four.

Three.

Two.

One.

Allow your body to feel fully alive and flowing with plenty of energy.

Stretch your arms over your head and wiggle your toes.

Enjoy the feeling of being calm and relaxed with a new inner strength,

And when you are ready,

Open your eyes.

And if you are lying down,

Slowly sit up,

And if you are sitting,

Stand up when you are ready and resume your day.
