Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me Liz Scott,
Where every day in February I take you out and about in nature and listen to nature's wisdom.
And yesterday I was telling you about the pilgrimage that I'll be undertaking in the next few weeks.
It's one that formed in my mind probably in the summer last year and it's been taking shape ever since.
It was very much about me listening and being drawn to a calling within.
And I want to talk today about the difference between responding to an urgent,
Nagging thought and responding to an inner calling.
Because there is a difference and I am still learning the differences.
It seems to be part of what I'm learning on my spiritual journey in life.
If you follow an urgent,
Nagging thought,
Well it has a very different feel to it than an inner calling.
And for me there is a subtle difference in the feeling.
Well,
To be honest it's not a subtle difference,
It's quite a clear difference.
An urgent,
Nagging thought is one that wants attention.
It's almost like a child pulling at you,
Pulling your hand saying,
I want an ice cream,
I want an ice cream,
I want an ice cream.
It has a persistent urgency,
A nagging restlessness about it.
Now following that kind of gut feeling,
For me,
Is not what I'm talking about when I talk about following my intuition.
Following my intuition is falling into a space where my busy mind is settled,
Where I feel a real sense of groundedness and calm.
And it's almost as if the volume in my mind has been turned down so I'm able to hear something slightly different.
For me it has a feeling of rightness about it.
For me there's a sense of okayness about it.
For me this is about listening to something that feels absolutely right.
So it has a different vibe,
A different feeling.
That's the best way I can describe it.
And I'm not talking about something that feels amazing and comes out of the blue.
I'm talking about something that is very everyday.
So,
For example,
I was sitting doing some work today and it just occurred to me to go for a walk.
Following your intuition doesn't mean big life-changing decisions.
Following your intuition,
Following that inner compass as I call it,
Is about tuning into something within.
And I think when I go out into nature,
Nature is a catalyst to help my mind settle and it enables me to hear what I need to hear more clearly.
My sense is that what I'm hearing is not a voice inside me,
Liz.
It's not my personality or identity trying to connect with me.
My sense is that what I'm hearing is the energy that connects everything in life.
And it takes form as a feeling and then an idea in my world.
And if I hear it,
I'm able to follow it and follow what it is and where it is leading me.
And the other thing I realise is that listening to that intuition,
Following it,
Doesn't mean that I find myself financially successful or doing something in the world that seems quite grandiose or well-thought of by others.
I have no idea where the threads take me or where they're leading.
I have no idea what it is that I am to learn or others are to learn by following that thread.
All I know is that it is for me to listen in and to follow and to notice the difference between that urgent nagging thought and the deeper,
Quieter thought of wisdom,
The feeling of wisdom that calls and draws me to take action.
And I'm really hoping that you too will start to notice the difference within you.
Can you feel the difference between that urgent thought,
The urgent thinking,
The busyness of your thinking and then the quieter call from within?
What's it like to actually listen in to that quieter call of wisdom?
Where is it leading you today?
