Don’t let your circumstances or emotions determine whether you’re on the right path in life. In today’s *5 Minutes in Nature*, Liz reflects on the 32nd day of her pilgrimage and discovers that difficulty doesn’t necessarily mean she’s on the wrong path. Challenges are a natural part of life, and she recognizes that each one carries valuable lessons, even if they’re not immediately clear. The true way to know if you’re headed in the right direction is to tune into your inner compass.

Hello and welcome to five minutes in nature with me Liz Scott.

On the 32nd day of my pilgrimage and nearing the end of my day today,

Which has been a long day of walking,

But compared to yesterday,

You know,

I feel really really energised.

I'm tired but today I've felt quite exhilarated with walking.

I'm actually following the Mary and Michael energy currents across England.

They stretch from Cornwall to Norfolk and I'm at a place,

Well I'm near a place called South Morton which is where I'll be ending my pilgrimage today.

I've just visited Blue Burton Hill.

It's a fort and it's quite distinctive in this landscape which can be quite flat at times and it's a hill fort that rises up out of the ground.

I'm Michael energy current runs right through it and that's why I climbed it earlier,

Just to have that blast of exhilaration from the Michael energy current.

And today I think is a really great reminder for me anyway about just the nature of pilgrimage.

And the nature of pilgrimage is that there are days when it's challenging and there are days when it's not challenging.

And you know in the past,

For a long time,

I thought that there was a simple equation and I thought that if I'm going in the right direction,

Life is easy.

So if things weren't easy then that meant I'm not going in the right direction.

I thought it was a really simple equation just like that.

So I was always always looking to feel happy and content and fulfilled in the activity I was doing.

Otherwise for me I took that as a sign as though oh you're you're in the wrong direction.

However I really see deeply now that life works very differently.

For me I see that there is an ebb and flow to life.

There's an ebb and flow of feelings,

An ebb and flow of thinking,

There's an ebb and flow of feeling happy or sad,

There's an ebb and flow of feeling fulfilled or lonely.

And rather than leaping on what might be termed as the negative feeling or thought pattern and trying to fix it,

Which is what I used to do,

I now just allow a space for all emotions to rise and then fade.

Because that's what happens,

They rise and they fade.

Yesterday was a real tricky day on my pilgrimage.

I felt very tired.

I had blisters and my feet were hurting and it was just it was a tough day,

It was challenging.

Now if I equated that to my life in the old days I would have taken that as a sign that I wasn't going in the right direction.

If you're going in the right direction,

Remember that equation,

Things need to be easy.

Well that just isn't true.

You can be going in the right direction and things are really tricky.

You can be going in the right direction and things are really easy.

It doesn't equate that if you're going in the right direction things should be easy or not,

That you should be happy rather than sad.

That just isn't how life works.

As far as I can tell there's only one place to look a hundred percent of the time.

Whatever the question,

Whatever the problem,

Whatever the thinking,

Whatever my feelings.

The place to look is within.

It's like I've got a checking mechanism.

I call it my inner compass.

It's a mechanism and it's not even a mechanism.

It feels like a deeper knowing,

A deeper intelligence.

It's not really part of me and the Liz identity.

It's from elsewhere,

That's as best as I can put it.

And looking within I can check if I am moving in the right direction.

Because I don't know what it is I'm meant to experience in life.

I don't know what gems are hidden underneath some of the trials and tribulations that I'm going through.

I don't know what my learning is meant to be.

However I know that if I look within I can check if I'm moving in the right direction.

And that for me has been invaluable.

Not just on this pilgrimage but in life generally.

And I think today has been such a great reminder of that.

Just keep looking within.

It doesn't matter what circumstances are like.

They don't dictate whether you're on the right path.

Look within.

Look to that deeper intelligence within you and use that as a guide.

That navigation system within you.

Use your inner compass.

Thank you Liz. 🙏🏼 I just knew you were going to say you felt buoyed up today 😅 I can relate to the ebb and flow business of life and you describe it perfectly…..the ebb and flow. Like the tides …that makes sense as we are a part of Nature. 🌿🌏🌿
