Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me Liz Scott.
And once again you find me out walking in the rain.
Oh my goodness we've had so much rain and the forecast for the next couple of weeks is still very unsettled.
So if you hear the pitter-patter of rain on my hood and maybe the occasional drop of rain on the microphone please do excuse me.
I'm up on Dartmoor and it feels as though I'm in a cloud.
This feels like rain that is not dropping from a cloud in the sky to the earth but I'm actually in the cloud of rain itself.
Everything has a sense of dampness and grayness about it.
And today is the third day of our experiment of living from love and not fear.
There's a course on Insight Timer called Living from Love and Not Fear if you want to explore this further.
But I just thought over the next seven days,
This is day three,
We'll explore this together,
What it looks like,
How it turns up in life.
And today I want to explore and share what it feels like to live from love and another way might be to call it living from wisdom and what it is to listen in to wisdom.
Today I was talking to a coaching client and she was expressing the thought that it would be important for her to integrate some morning routines into her life and she said I used to do meditation and I used to do quiet time in the morning,
Maybe I need to do that again.
She was looking for a rhythm in her life.
The way that she was living life at the moment didn't feel quite connected,
She was looking for something else.
And as we talked a little bit further we explored the difference between imposing a rhythm on your life,
Imposing a rhythm based on thought and need and what I should do and what I used to do and how I think life should be.
And the difference between that and listening within and seeing what the rhythm of your life is calling you to do and be today and in the moment,
It's two very different things.
There's a sense of I should and I must attached to imposing a routine on my life or a rhythm on my life but it's very different to listen in,
Listen into the wisdom of your system,
Your body and your mind and to see what is the rhythm,
What is the rituals that are being called for in my life at the moment.
And I'm going to give you an example of how that turned up for me recently.
It's a really simple example,
I was helping to look after my mum in Exeter and my mum is very elderly and she loves having the heating on in the house so the house when I visit it feels really uncomfortably warm to me,
It's not the temperature I'm used to living in and it takes me a little while just to adjust to the temperature of the house and the routine of looking after my mum.
And on this particular day,
It was the evening,
I was feeling quite warm and a little bit restless.
Outside the rain was hammering down,
It was dark and it was a really horrible night and as I listened within,
I could feel my body,
My system,
My psychology,
My soul,
My wisdom,
Whatever language you want to call it,
I could feel it saying go for a walk.
And my mind jumped in with a,
Well that's ridiculous,
It's raining and it's dark and I don't want to go outside and it's not a good time to go outside and a whole load of excuses and thoughts kind of erupted in my mind and my wisdom was,
It's time to go out for a walk.
You see,
I know the difference between listening to wisdom and listening to my thoughts and I knew to listen to my wisdom.
And as I went outside and I dressed up in my waterproof coat and waterproof trousers and went for a walk,
I breathed in and could feel my whole body relax,
It was like I needed oxygen.
I'm going for a walk and I was breathing in and just getting acclimatised to being with my mum for the weekend,
It was absolutely the right thing to do.
So today when it comes from living from love rather than fear,
That's a really good example of it in action.
Listening to wisdom rather than those unsettled thoughts that would have had me stay in the house.
It's a really simple example but I'm really hoping that this will encourage you to listen in to your wisdom,
Listen in to love in your life and live from that place rather than fear.
I'll be back tomorrow with day four and another five minutes in nature,
So do join me then.
