Hi and welcome to this guided meditation.
My name is Leslie and I will guide you through these minutes of relaxation.
To start the meditation move into a comfortable position.
This can be either sitting or sleeping.
If sitting on the floor you can sit cross-leg.
If using a chair sit with your feet flat on the ground.
Keep your back upright,
Hands on your knees,
Facing outward and head slightly tilted upward.
If sleeping,
Sleep flat on your back without a pillow,
Arms to your sides facing upwards.
Keep your eyes closed with a gentle focus between your eyebrows.
Let's focus on our breathing and start taking deep breaths.
Breathe in through your nose and let the air fill your lungs and then breathe out through your nose.
As we go through this meditation we will keep taking these deep relaxing breaths and if you find yourself lost then bring back your focus to my voice and keep taking deep relaxing breaths.
In this meditation we will focus on self-control.
What does self-control mean to us?
Are we able to exercise complete and absolute self-control in all aspects and areas of our life?
The truth is that none of us have absolute self-control.
Many of us are able to practice self-control quite well in some areas like exercise,
Following a diet,
Being polite and practicing good manners.
However in some areas it can be seemingly impossible to have even a decent level of self-control.
Being humble,
Non-judgmental,
Avoiding gossip and procrastination,
These are some of the areas we struggle with daily.
So how can we work towards this?
How can we achieve better self-control in the areas where we are lacking?
Self-awareness can have a big part to play in effectively practicing self-control.
Being aware of our shortcomings,
Our faults,
Our emotions and our behaviors can effectively point us in the areas we need to practice self-control.
Let us try to strive for this self-awareness every day.
And until we have achieved a heightened level of self-awareness,
We can implement self-control by using a Just For Today card.
So Just For Today we can eat healthy,
We can exercise,
We can treat others with love and compassion,
We can reach out if someone needs our help,
We can be humble,
Non-judgmental and we can be generous.
And tomorrow we can repeat today.
So let's take a final deep breath in this meditation and strive for better self-control one day at a time.
