Arishadvarga,
A term from Indian philosophy and spirituality,
Refers to the six enemies or negative qualities that are considered obstacles on the path of spiritual and ethical development.
These are Kama,
Desire,
Krodha,
Anger,
Lobha,
Greed,
Moha,
Attachment,
Mada,
Pride and Matsarya,
Jealousy.
Arishadvarga is often used to highlight the importance of self-discipline,
Self-awareness and detachment from these negative qualities in order to achieve spiritual growth and inner peace.
This is the fifth in the series of six meditations where we will understand and navigate each of these enemies.
In this meditation we will focus on Mada which is Pride.
Welcome to this meditation focused on understanding and cultivating humility in contrast to the negative quality of Pride or Mada.
So find a comfortable and quiet place to sit or lie down and begin by taking a few deep breaths and with each breath simply bringing yourself to the presence of this moment.
In this meditation we will delve into the concept of Mada which represents Pride or Arrogance.
Pride can create a barrier to growth and connection and through this meditation we will explore how to cultivate humility and embrace a more balanced perspective.
So if you have not already done so you can close your eyes and turn your attention to your breath.
Inhale deeply letting the breath fill your lungs and exhale fully releasing any tensions or distractions.
Focus on the rhythm of your breath allowing it to anchor you in the present moment.
Now imagine a majestic mountain before you.
This mountain stands tall and strong yet it remains humble and rooted in the earth.
Visualize yourself standing at the base of this mountain connecting with its sense of stability and humility.
Now contemplate on the times when Pride has influenced your thoughts and actions.
Reflect on how Pride can limit your ability to learn,
Grow and connect with others.
Recognize that true strength lies in humility,
The willingness to acknowledge your imperfections.
Shift your focus now to your heart center and with each breath imagine a soft light emanating from your heart symbolizing humility.
With each inhale let this light expand and let it keep expanding until it permeates your entire being and as you exhale release any traces of Pride or Arrogance.
Now visualize yourself in a situation where you have achieved something significant and instead of basking in Pride focus on the collaboration and support that contributed to your success.
Practice gratitude for the interconnectedness of all beings and the lessons they offer.
Now imagine a golden thread that connects you to all living beings.
As you breathe feel the shared experiences,
Struggles and aspirations that unite us all.
Embrace a sense of kinship that dissolves the boundaries created by Pride.
And now visualize a flower bud within your heart.
As you breathe envision the bud slowly opening revealing a radiant and humble light within.
Allow this light to permeate every aspect of your being guiding you toward greater humility.
And as this meditation comes to a close take a moment to appreciate any insights you've gained regarding Mada and the transformative power of humility.
Remember that by cultivating humility you create space for deeper connections,
Personal growth and a sense of interconnectedness with all life.
Now gently bring your focus back to your breath and when you're ready slowly open your eyes and carry the essence of this meditation into your interactions and into your experiences.
By embracing humility you can foster a more harmonious and compassionate relationship with yourself and others.
