Adi Shadvarga,
A term from Indian philosophy and spirituality,
Refers to the six enemies or negative qualities that are considered obstacles on the path of spiritual and ethical development.
These are Kama,
Desire,
Krodha,
Anger,
Loba,
Greed,
Moha,
Attachment,
Mada,
Pride and Matsarya,
Jealousy.
Adi Shadvarga is often used to highlight the importance of self-discipline,
Self-awareness and detachment from these negative qualities in order to achieve spiritual growth and inner peace.
This is the fourth in the series of six meditations where we will understand and navigate each of these enemies.
Today we will focus on Moha,
Which is attachment.
So welcome to this meditation designed to explore and release attachment,
Attachment which is known as Moha in Indian philosophy.
So find a quiet and comfortable place to sit or lie down.
Begin by taking a few deep breaths,
Allowing yourself to be fully present in this moment.
In this meditation we will delve into the concept of Moha,
Which refers to attachment or strong emotional clinging.
Attachment can cloud our perception and lead to suffering.
Let's embark on a journey of understanding and mindful release of attachment.
So close your eyes and turn your attention to your breath.
Inhale deeply,
Allowing your breath to ground you in the present moment.
Exhale fully,
Releasing any tension or preoccupations.
Continue to breathe deeply,
Centering yourself and letting go of distractions.
Now imagine a washed and clear sky stretching out before you.
This sky represents the spaciousness of your mind.
Visualize your attachments as clouds passing through the sky.
Observe each cloud as it appears and then gently dissolves,
Revealing the boundless expanse beyond.
Contemplate the attachments that have influenced your thoughts and actions.
Reflect on the moments when attachment has caused discomfort or hindered your growth.
Recognize that attachment often arises from a fear of loss or change.
Observe these patterns without judgment.
Now shift your focus to your heart center and with each breath,
Imagine a gentle breeze blowing through your heart,
Carrying away any attachments that have taken root.
Embrace a sense of detachment,
Allowing your heart to remain open and free.
Now visualize yourself surrounded by a sphere of radiant light.
This light symbolizes love and compassion.
As you breathe,
Imagine this light expanding and embracing all beings,
Including yourself.
Feel a deep sense of interconnectedness and love that transcends attachment.
And now think of an attachment you are ready to release.
Hold it in your mind's eye,
Acknowledging its presence.
Now imagine yourself thanking this attachment for the lessons it has taught you.
Visualize it gently dissolving,
Leaving you with a sense of liberation and inner peace.
And as this meditation draws to a close,
Take a moment to appreciate the insights you've gained about moha and the power of mindful release.
Remember that by letting go of attachments,
You create space for greater clarity,
Love and freedom in your life.
Gently bring your focus back to your breath and when you're ready,
Open your eyes,
Carrying the wisdom of this meditation into your interactions and experiences.
By cultivating detachment,
You can embrace life's changes with grace and cultivate a deeper sense of inner harmony.
Namaste.
