In this meditation you’ll explore the idea that an inner calling, or restlessness for something more, even when that something is not clear, may be a sort of invitation, an inner urge to discover more of your potential, or as thresholds into new life. Likewise, difficult times or challenges might be seen this way. What feels potent, but without form, may be experienced as “a call from the soul” into a life that you came to live. This meditation begins with a poem to set the stage, then you’ll be guided through a relaxation centered in your chakras, and finally an invitation to explore the idea of taking a step toward something new as opening the door to new possibilities. Music by Chris Collins accompanies this guided meditation.

Welcome to this guided meditation to invite you to open to your potential.

We'll open this meditation with a poem I wrote entitled Thresholds.

Thresholds,

What if your soul placed specific limits on your life?

In eternity,

Decisions made well before your birth,

So that you might rise and rise again into your full creative force and realize that those doors that looked closed instead were disguised to become the thresholds you came here to cross.

Let's go into the meditation time now.

We'll take a few minutes to relax and prepare to open.

Sitting tall in your chair,

Notice your breath coming in through the nostrils and out through the nostrils.

Sense the air coming into your body,

Expanding your chest,

Maybe your abdomen as it comes in and then releasing or contracting your body,

Letting go as the breath moves out.

We'll take a couple big breaths here,

Just noticing the expansion of the body and the contraction on the inhale and exhale.

And now draw your awareness up to the crown of your head.

Let it rest here for a moment.

Take a breath from this part of your body and relax.

And now let your awareness travel down to your forehead.

Let it soften,

Relax,

Soften your face and your jaw.

Take a breath while your attention is on your face and relax.

Now let your attention travel down into your neck,

Inside your throat.

Notice the breath moving through your throat as you breathe in and out.

Let your attention rest at the base of your throat as you take your next breath in and out and relax and let go a little bit more.

And now let your attention draw downward into the space inside your chest around your heart.

Feel your breath coming in on the inhale,

Feeling your chest and then releasing and letting go from here.

Relax your heart as you breathe in and out.

And now let your awareness drop downward from heart space and rest up high in your belly at your solar plexus,

The place where the top of your ribs meet.

Breathe into this space of your body and let go and see if you can soften here.

Hold your attention here for your next breath and relax a little bit more.

And now draw your attention to the space inside your body just below your navel.

See if you can bring your breath all the way down here as you inhale,

Letting it expand like a balloon and then contract slowly as your breath releases.

Take another breath with your awareness here,

Letting the breath fill and empty the area below and behind your navel.

And now let your awareness draw down,

Down to the space of your spine,

The floor of your See if your breath could reach all the way down to this part of your body.

And for the next few breaths,

Let your attention draw slowly down with your breath,

Bringing it as far down as you can as you inhale,

And then slowly letting it release up and out through your mouth,

Your nostrils.

Now in this more relaxed state,

Consider that you are more than what you've done so far in your life,

More than what you think of yourself today,

More than any role you are in at work or at home.

Consider that you are a spirit,

A soul,

Having a human experience in this one body,

One life in this certain place on earth.

And you've come through the family and places where you've lived so far.

They've impressed you in certain ways,

Shaping your story into today and causing the choices you've made so far in your life.

Consider yourself as so much more than this that has not yet been tapped into,

Expressed or explored.

And from this place,

Just see yourself as one person who has walked into this place in your life up until today,

But has so much more to discover.

And now imagine just for a few moments that there is nothing before you.

All the things you think that you are supposed to do are only in your mind.

And in the momentum that you have gathered to create your life so far.

What if you put that all aside right now and wonder what else might be there for you beyond the laid out choices that you plan on for today and for the tomorrows on the horizon.

From within,

What else might be calling to you that you haven't experienced yet,

But that you may be restless for somewhere inside.

Let yourself wonder for a moment as you breathe and let go.

Inviting any desire for more.

Any,

Any thought,

Any feeling to come forth and inform you right now.

And now invite yourself to shift perspective for a moment.

Consider looking at your life challenges as doorways with thresholds.

Is there something difficult right now that you want to change,

But you don't know how.

How might you explore the possibilities that exist around this difficulty.

How might you take one step toward what feels more right.

More true to your heart in this challenge.

What door might you open today through a word or conversation or an action to explore the possibility of more.

Is there anything else that seems to be calling from somewhere within you.

How might you explore opening the store crossing a threshold as simple as a call to someone or a letter from your heart to someone you care about.

Or even a letter to the future you words expressed that need or want to be said to be shared.

Or might you explore opening a door through taking a class or asking for help from someone or even by offering help to someone.

What's in you that might be pushing or prodding that you might do today to let this doorway open a little and see what light might come through.

As you more purposefully explore your potential.

Can you shift your perspective to consider all challenges as invitations to become more intentional and clear in what you want and how you want to live.

Can you see these challenges as doorways.

Could they be thresholds to cross to discover the life you came here to live.

The person you came here to become.

And as we begin to close this meditation bring your attention back to your breath and your body.

If you like open your palms.

You might even hold them up and out in front of you.

Imagine breathing into your hands your palms.

Imagine opening and being ready to receive just for this moment.

As you relax with palms up and open simply breathe and notice your palms.

Invite them to bring in a new beginning this day.

When you're ready to leave this meditation.

Wiggle fingers toes open your eyes.

And if you're not ready stay with the experience and close as you are ready.

I thank you for sharing this time with me.
