When the mind gets rigid and tense, it gets harder to solve problems. Whether you can’t get into your email, or your phone won’t charge, or you deleted something by accident and need to get it back, this meditation will help you get calm and centered again, so that your mind is freer to come up with solutions and deal with whatever you’re dealing with. We'll ground to sensations in the body and do some slow, deep breathing, and then ask questions to inspire possible solutions and reframe problems in a new light.

This meditation is meant to help you when you're struggling with technology and feeling stuck.

When the mind gets rigid and tense,

It gets harder to solve problems.

And often we start going around in tight circles doing the same thing again and again.

Or we start catastrophizing with stories about how bad the problem is.

Or else we shut down completely.

Whether you can't get into your email,

Or your phone won't charge,

Or you deleted something by accident and need to get it back.

This meditation will help you get calm and centered again,

So that your mind is freer to come up with solutions and deal with whatever you're dealing with.

Before we start,

Make a mental note of how you're feeling right now.

Are you frustrated,

Confused,

Angry,

Anxious,

All of the above?

The next question is,

How do you know that's what you're feeling?

Where are you feeling it in your body?

Is there tension in your chest,

Or your stomach,

Or your jaw?

Is your breathing fast,

Or is your heart racing?

Just notice it.

You don't need to try to change anything.

Get yourself into a comfortable position.

Seated or lying down is fine.

Whatever works for you.

What matters is that you can feel the support of something underneath you.

Close your eyes.

Focus on wherever you can most feel the pull of gravity,

Your weight against a surface.

It might be your bum on a chair or a cushion,

Or your feet resting on the floor,

Or your back against the bed.

Maybe it's your hands resting in your lap or your head on a pillow.

We're going to call this feeling your anchor.

Put all your attention on that anchor sensation.

Feel the pressure of your body against its support.

Feel the edges of that surface area.

Let your body be fully supported.

Take a slow,

Deep breath in through your nose,

And then slowly let it go.

Do this a few more times.

A slow,

Deep breath in,

And as you let go,

Let your body feel even heavier.

Let it surrender just a little more to gravity.

Let your mind wander for a moment to the problem that you're having.

Don't start actively thinking about it yet.

Just gently touch it with your mind.

Notice,

Does anything change in your body?

Notice that the actual problem isn't happening right now.

Right now,

You're listening to my voice,

And you're resting on a surface.

The problem is just an abstract idea in your head.

It's not something you can touch or smell.

And it's not necessarily even a problem.

It's just something that's happening.

I'm just going to refer to it as a situation from now on,

Because when we hear the word problem,

We tend to tighten up and get ready for a struggle.

If situation is too neutral for you,

You could try thinking of it as an inconvenience,

Or a puzzle,

Or a challenge.

Go back to feeling the weight of your anchor.

Put all your attention on it now.

Take another slow,

Deep breath in,

And let it go.

Do this a few more times.

You're just feeling your breath,

And that heavy anchor sensation in your body,

Holding you to the earth,

Which is holding you back.

I'm going to ask you a few questions.

See if any of them apply to you.

You don't have to have all the answers,

And not all of them will resonate with you.

Just feel into each question for a moment,

And see if it opens up any ideas or feelings.

And remember to keep in touch with your anchor,

That sense of gravity and support.

With the situation you're dealing with,

Do you know what's wrong already?

Or do you still need to figure out what's wrong?

Is the situation something you can fix,

Or something that someone else has to take care of?

If it's something you need to fix,

Is there anyone you can ask for help,

Like a family member,

Or a tech support person?

Are there any simple steps that you can take that might help with the problem?

For example,

Rebooting your computer or your phone can help in some situations.

Hitting the reload or refresh button on a website sometimes clears up temporary issues.

Is this situation going to matter in five minutes?

How about five months?

Will it matter in five years?

Will it matter in five lifetimes?

Feel your anchor point again,

Where you notice the pull of gravity.

Take a few more slow,

Deep breaths.

Let your eyes slowly open,

And let the room come to you.

Check in with how you're feeling now.

Has anything changed?

I hope this has helped you feel a little more grounded,

And a little less stressed,

And better able to solve your problems.

Whatever situation comes your way.

Good luck!
