Wisdom And Compassion Journey
by Kristy Arbon
This is a beautiful meditation that will be taking you on a journey to a place where you can connect with a very wise and compassionate being surrounded by an environment that feels very safe and comfortable for you.
Transcript
Making yourself comfortable.
Making sure that your body is well supported,
Your arms are well supported,
Your legs,
Your feet,
Your back.
You could lay down for this meditation,
You could sit in a chair,
Sit on a cushion,
You could even stand for this meditation.
This will be a visualization meditation.
We're going to bring in some imagery.
Imagery is not for everybody so I invite you to be playful about this meditation.
Be creative.
And what works for you.
So in your mind,
Imagining that you are in a place that feels very safe and very comfortable.
You might be sitting in this place,
You might be standing,
You might be walking through this place,
Whatever makes sense to you.
This place might be somewhere that is familiar to you.
It might be sitting on your favourite chair in your lounge room.
It might be walking along the path that you walk every day in your walk after work.
It might be a place that you imagine,
Maybe a cabin in the woods,
Sitting in a rocking chair by a fire.
It might be walking along a beach,
Feeling the sand between your toes.
It might even be somewhere like sitting on a cloud.
Wherever you feel very safe,
Very comfortable,
Imagining yourself in that place and really noticing what your senses are picking up.
Noticing what you smell,
What you hear,
What you see,
Maybe even taste and noticing the sense of touch in this place.
How does it feel to be sitting on whatever you're sitting on if you are sitting?
How does it feel to be walking?
Maybe you have bare feet and you can feel the ground or the sand or the grass under your feet.
Maybe you feel plants brush past your fingers as you walk past them.
Really allowing yourself to feel what it's like to be in this space,
Bringing all of your senses,
Really placing yourself in this safe,
Comfortable place.
And then as you're in this place,
Either sitting,
Standing or walking through this place,
A being comes into this space with you.
And this might be an animal,
It might be a person,
It might be a spiritual figure,
A deity.
It might be someone who's known to you or it might be someone you've never met before.
This being embodies the qualities of wisdom and compassion.
And this being knows you very well,
Very intimately.
So if you're walking,
They might join you on your path or you might come across them in a clearing or a place on the beach,
Whatever you're walking through.
If you're sitting in your safe,
Comfortable space,
They might walk into that space or you might leave that space and go out to greet them.
Whatever makes sense to you,
Whatever feels right,
You get to choose how you greet this wise,
Compassionate being.
And staying in touch with your senses,
With how this being looks,
How they sound if they're saying anything.
Maybe they even have a scent,
How they smell.
And if you reach out to touch this being,
How they feel if they're an animal,
Maybe they have a coat that you can run your fingers through.
If they're a human being,
Maybe you feel their skin,
Maybe you hold their hand or you touch their arm.
Maybe they touch your arm.
This visualisation gets to be exactly what works for you,
Exactly what makes sense to you.
And as you're with this wise,
Compassionate being,
Knowing that they care very deeply for you and that they know you intimately,
Is there anything you'd like to say to this wise,
Compassionate being?
No need to force any words,
But just noticing,
Is there anything you'd like to say to this being?
Is there anything you'd like to ask this being?
They may not answer,
But if a question comes to mind,
Once again without forcing a question,
Allowing yourself to ask this being this question,
Once again remembering they are very wise,
Very compassionate,
They know you very well and they care very deeply for you,
Is there anything you want to ask them?
And now it's the turn of this being to speak to you.
Listen,
Is there something that they're wanting to tell you?
Maybe there isn't and the gift of their presence is what they bring,
But being patient,
Opening their ears to your heart,
Waiting to see if this wise,
Compassionate being wants to tell you anything.
And then this being might like to give you something,
A material object,
Something for your toolkit maybe.
They might not have something to give you,
But once again being open to the possibility that they might like to give you something.
And if they do give you something,
There's no need to search for meaning in this thing that they give you.
Simply allow for there to be a gift without trying to work out what's going on.
The meaning may well unfold for you over time.
Once again bringing your senses in to appreciate this gift if there was a gift.
How does it look?
Notice colour,
Shine or matte,
Size,
Noticing texture.
How does this object feel?
Is there a sound from this object?
Is there a scent associated with this object?
Does this object have a taste?
Really getting a good sense of this object if there was one.
Once again maybe there wasn't an object and that's okay.
And so now it's time for you and this wise compassionate being to part ways.
This wise compassionate being might not go very far away.
They might simply walk on a path parallel to yours if you're walking.
They might simply move over to another part of the forest if you're in the forest.
They might even just move to another chair in the room if you're in a room.
Or they might leave your safe comfortable space all together.
Waiting to see what they do.
You don't need to orchestrate what they do.
They know where they need to be.
Allowing them to go to where they need to be.
And if they seem to be moving away to a place where you're feeling some longing for them,
Feel free to let them know.
You can interact with this being.
Maybe they adjust where they go to in response to you letting them know what you need.
And as you're sitting,
Standing,
Walking after having interacted with this wise compassionate being,
Reflecting on this experience,
And consider this.
This wise compassionate being is actually a part of you.
And if they looked like somebody else,
You have internalized this wisdom,
This compassion.
This is how this being knows you so well is because they are a part of you.
They are your inner wisdom,
Your intuition,
Your compassion,
Your deep felt care and concern for yourself.
They might be your creativity,
Your passion,
Your joy,
Your maternal instinct,
Your wise sense of yang or masculine energy.
They are a very important part of you.
And you can access them whenever you need them.
Reflecting on the words that were exchanged,
If there were words,
The gift you received,
If there was a gift,
And knowing this has come from your own internal resource.
This has come from yourself.
You know what you need.
You just need to take a moment to allow space,
To allow unfolding,
To be curious and open to the voice of your inner wisdom and compassion.
So as we move towards the end of this journey,
Start to become aware of your physical body.
In your mind,
If you've been walking through this journey,
Imagine yourself walking out of the space that you've been in,
Maybe opening the door to the room that you are physically in right now,
And walking into that room and joining yourself sitting on the chair or on the floor or laying on the ground wherever you are.
If you've imagined yourself sitting or standing in a safe,
Comfortable space,
Simply allowing that environment to dissolve as your actual physical environment starts to come into form,
Into shape around you,
And start to feel the physicality of your environment,
The seat that you're sitting on,
The floor underneath you,
Cushions,
Blankets,
Clothing,
Shoes,
Socks,
Whatever is touching your body,
Becoming aware of all of that.
Starting to move your body,
Maybe taking a stretch.
When you're ready,
Gently opening your eyes,
Taking a look around this physical space that you're in,
Really taking your time,
Transitioning slowly,
Maybe taking a sip of your drink to help you to ground,
And as you do so,
Reflecting on the words,
The gift from your journey.
You might even like to journal about this experience.
Then when you're ready,
Moving gently back out into the rest of your day.
