It's time to let go.
Attachment is part of the human condition.
Attachment to people,
Places,
Objects,
Feelings,
Memories.
From our very beginning,
We are infinitely attached to something.
The first connection or attachment that we make is the last that we release in this world.
Our soul,
Tethered to our body,
Parallel attachment,
The first physical to physical,
Is the first that we let go of.
The sacred connection of the umbilical cord to our mother.
She has the unique ability to carry and nourish us.
First inside the womb,
And then again after we are born as babies.
We are so dependent on our mothers,
So attached to her.
As we grow our attachment to her lessens completely naturally,
Though maybe unwillingly,
And we become attached to something else.
A toy,
A friend,
A dream,
And then later on a job,
Or a lover,
An idea of what our life should be.
Sometimes a toy breaks,
A friend lets us down,
A dream fades,
A job no longer fulfills us,
A lover breaks our heart,
Or we end up chasing an idea that just never comes to fruition.
We may feel hollow inside,
Or empty,
But what if rather than being forever attached to something,
And having it ripped away from our tight grasp,
We simply let go.
Sitting comfortably,
Take a deep breath in,
And just let go.
Feel the ease with which the air moves in and out of your body.
Breathe in,
And let go.
Your body doesn't become attached to the air.
It simply allows the air to move into your lungs,
And out once more.
Again,
Breathe in,
And let go.
Breathe in,
And let go.
Breathe in,
Let go.
Now the next time you breathe in,
Hold.

Continue for the next few breaths on your own with the same pattern.
Coming back together,
Breathe in again,
And this time hold for 10,

And let go.
The longer you hold onto your breath,
The more it wants to be released.
The same is true for everything in your life.
The tighter and longer you hold on,
The greater the need to let go.
Remember that letting go is not about disconnecting.
Breathe in,
Let go.
You are not disconnected from your breath.
You are simply allowing it to be.
You are connecting to the essence of your breath,
The ebb and flow as it enters your body and leaves once more.
In connecting to your breath,
You are connecting to life.
Nothing is meant to stay in your life forever.
We are not meant to stay attached to any one person,
Place,
Object,
Feeling,
Or memory,
Or breath of air.
The universe always intended for us to let go,
To let this world and all that is in it to come into our awareness and gently ease away again.
To appreciate all we have when we have it.
To not hold on to the feeling of loss when we lose something,
Or something else will surely come in its place.
Nothing is permanent in this life.
It's not about living a life of attachment and subsequent loss.
It's about gratitude,
Acceptance,
And letting go.
To end this practice,
Imagine you're standing on a high cliff overlooking a beautiful valley as the sun sets in the distance.
You're holding a piece of paper on which you've written something that you've held on tightly for quite some time now.
Think about what you've written on that paper.
What have you held on to so tightly,
Something that you haven't wanted to let go of,
Because of fear,
Because of loving too hard?
You fold the paper into a simple paper airplane,
And in your mind's eye,
Standing near the edge of the cliff,
You take a deep breath in,
Draw back your arm,
And bring it forward,
Letting the plane go.
You stand and watch the paper airplane soar through the air,
Drifting further and further away from you.
You feel a deep gratitude for all that has led you here to this edge.
You feel acceptance for your life as it is right now in this moment.
And then you let go of that moment.
You turn and walk back down the cliff,
Making your way home,
Knowing that a new day will soon begin.
As you go about your day,
Return your awareness to the breath whenever you feel attached to a moment or an outcome,
Or a person that might be causing tension.
Use your breath to help you release that feeling.
Focus in on your breath when you need to let something go,
The same way that you let that breath of air go as it needs to be released from your body.
Breathing in again,
Just let go of that breath.
Whenever you feel ready,
Open your eyes and go about your day.
