This meditation is specifically for anyone that has struggled to accept the size or shape of their midsection.

We have a cultural pressure to fit in and look a certain way and that's all about body image or how we feel about the look of our body.

This meditation is an invitation to reconnect to the place in our body that we've rejected,

Constrained or condemned to fit into this cultural structure.

This meditation is for anyone that wants to practice embodiment.

Meditation is how we feel in our bodies.

When we're connected and listening,

Our bodies are a wealth of communication,

Intuition and deep knowing.

Our bodies tell us the truth of our lives in a particular way.

And so for these next few moments,

We're going to practice listening.

We're going to practice self-acceptance of this place of our body that we often reject,

Our midsection.

So close your eyes and for a moment,

Flatter me and just suck in that area of your body.

Feel how constricting it is.

Now with a deep exhale,

Breathe out.

Let this part of your body,

This midsection where your diaphragm expands to open up more air and contracts to exhale.

This part of your body where digestion happens.

I want you to cue into this place.

For a moment,

Take your palms of your hands.

The palms of our hands have a particular amount of energy and warmth.

And I want you to send as much love that you can muster and through your palms and touch the midsection of your body.

Think about sending as much love as you can through the palms of your hands.

Think about welcoming this place of your body to yourself.

What does it look like for you to think this part of your body?

Think this part of your body that has digested your food,

Resurrecting the energy from a plant or animal that was once alive and now is becoming a source of energy for you on a cellular level,

Nourishing your body and all of its systems.

This place houses so much.

There's so much that's hidden that we don't see but yet continues to go on and give us life.

So right now,

You can move your hands,

Readjust,

But gently think your stomach,

Your organs,

Your digestive system,

This place in you that gives you life.

As you practice this acceptance and maybe for the very first time,

Physical touch that's nourishing to this area of your body.

Maybe what's coming up for you is sorrow.

Maybe you've long condemned or cursed this area.

Maybe something that's happening is a wave of grief.

So if that's you,

I invite you to just exhale,

Let that out.

Whatever is coming up,

Let yourself fully feel it.

Let it rise to the surface.

Maybe it's grief,

Sorrow,

Sadness for the words that have been spoken,

The thoughts that you've had about this part of your body and then let them go.

And now in this moment,

Whisper something that you need to hear,

That your body needs to hear as a way to affirm the self-acceptance that you want to now practice.

And now we're going to end our time with a prayer.

Lord God and creator,

Creator of this wonderful body and all of its complexities.

God,

You know our inmost places,

You know the hidden places in us.

And so I pray that we continue to practice this form of self-acceptance,

This form of embodiment.

Help us to press into the intuition and knowing within our bodies that you're always speaking to us through our bodies.

Amen.

Friends I'm so grateful that you were brave enough to go on this journey with me and that this is not a one-time fix but this is a practice that we can return to over and over again.

And so blessings on your meditative embodiment journey.

She has so many stories to tell that speak of her elastic power and resilient presence—my midsection. Thank you!

I found this meditation by chance while writing in my journal about how I feel recovering from surgery. I had a DIEP flap breast reconstruction using the fat from my stomach following a mastectomy. It has been an incredibly tough recovery. But I was just thanking God for surviving it when I saw your other meditation pop up on a search for new Christian tracks on Insight Timer. Reading your bio I found this track on accepting your midsection- painful scars and all! God does speak in mysterious ways that are NOT coincidental. Blessings!
