Waiting For Floyd

Mesmerising, calming guitars blend with the sound of New Zealand birds and the bright chortles and trills of a juvenile magpie. Three months after living with a juvenile magpie whom I named Floyd, he did not return one morning. Thankfully, I had recorded his happy warblings before he disappeared, so his beautiful singing accompanies this wistful guitar composition expressing longing to see my dear friend again.

I love this. Thank you for sharing it. The guitars are mesmerising and calming, and I love the brightness of the little chortles and trills of Floyd. It makes me think of this quote from this beautiful children’s book:

“A magpie can be happy or sad: sometimes so happy that he sits on a high, high gum tree and rolls the sunrise around in his throat like beads of pink sunlight; and sometimes so sad that you would expect the tears to drip off his beak. This magpie was like that.” Colin Thiele in Magpie Island

Such a beautiful piece of music and a lovely tribute.
It evoked so many feelings in me, heartbreak, longing, loss, loneliness, like walking a long treeless dusty backroad under a burning high summer sun.
I will be listening many times.
