Welcome to this meditation on the root chakra.
We will focus our energy and attention on the root chakra,
The space where we connect to the earth.
So feelings of security or lack of security and safety or lack of safety can come up in this chakra.
We will practice yin and yang pranayama as well as chanting the bija mantra into the space of this chakra before spending some time observing what comes up in this area.
We will end by drawing our attention up to the spiritual eye.
So we're going to begin by finding a comfortable seated position.
Take your time to make sure you're seated very comfortably on a seat or on a cushion with your back tall and long,
Chest forward and chin parallel to the ground.
So we're elongating the spine and then relaxing the whole body.
Gently close your eyes or bring your gaze softly to a point in front of you.
Relaxing the eyes and turning the attention gently inwards.
From here we're going to take three deeper breaths.
First into the belly,
Topping up at the chest,
And long exhale.
And again,
Deep breath into the belly,
Topping up at the chest,
And relaxing on the exhale.
Last time,
Deep breath in,
Top it up at the chest,
And relaxing your whole body on the exhalation.
Now bring your attention to your spine.
Feel the physical extension of your spine,
The spinal cord and the vertebrae stacked one on top of the other.
You may also imagine or feel a column of light,
Of energy running through the space of your spine and connecting you to the heavens above through the crown of your head and to the earth below through your pelvic floor.
I'm taking a few breaths here to feel the energy in the spine.
Now move your attention to the base of the spine,
Mooladhara Chakra.
The root of this chakra is situated on the tip of the tailbone,
The coccyx,
And the flower opens towards the pelvic floor into the heart.
Now bring your attention to the earth.
The element associated with this chakra is the earth element.
We are going to start with some Yin Pranayama using the Bija Mantra associated with this chakra,
Which is Lam.
Yin Pranayama focuses on the breathless pause that happens after an unforced exhalation.
During this pause the ribcage is neither expanded nor contracted and the diaphragm is completely relaxed.
We use the diaphragm to breathe in a relaxed way.
The effortless extension of the breathless pause after the exhalation is Yin Pranayama and this does not take muscular effort.
It only extends when we become physically,
Emotionally,
Energetically,
And mentally quiet.
So taking a few breaths now to feel the energy in your root chakra.
And now inhaling very softly into the space of this chakra while mentally chanting a brief and gentle Om.
Exhale softly while keeping the attention on the root chakra and briefly mentally chanting a soft Lam into the space of this chakra.
Inhaling soft Om into the root chakra.
Exhaling soft Lam into the root chakra.
Please continue like this for another few breaths.
Maintaining this breath of inhaling an Om into the space and exhaling Lam into chakra.
See if you can extend the breathless pause at the end of your exhalation.
Don't force your breath,
But notice what arises in that pause and if you can extend it very slightly.
Very gentle inhale into the root chakra with a brief Om.
And very gently exhaling into the root chakra with a gentle Lam.
And perhaps extending that breathless pause after the exhalation.
Keeping everything very soft and relaxed.
And please continue like this for another couple of minutes.
And I will let you know when it's time to release your effort.
Please release your effort.
Now we will work with Yang Pranayama.
Yang Pranayama focuses on the rhythm of inhalation,
Retention and exhalation.
I will guide you through a rhythm.
I invite you to adapt this rhythm to suit your own needs.
We will inhale for a count of six,
Hold for a count of six and exhale for a count of six.
All the while internally chanting a long Om on the inhale and a long Lam on the exhalation.
Take a few breaths to feel the energy in your root chakra.
And keep your attention here.
Inhale Om to release.
Hold for a count of six.
Exhale Lam for a count of six.
Inhale Om for a count of six.
Hold for a count of six.
Exhale Lam for a count of six.
Inhale Om for a count of six.
Hold for a count of six.
Exhale Lam for a count of six.
Inhale Om for a count of six.
Hold for a count of six.
Exhale Lam for a count of six.
Inhale Om for a count of six.
Hold for a count of six.
Exhale Lam for a count of six.
Inhale Om for a count of six.
Hold for a count of six.
Exhale Lam for a count of six.
Relax your effort.
We will sit quietly now for a few minutes as we observe what comes up physically,
Mentally,
Emotionally and energetically.
Gently bringing your attention to the point between the eyebrows,
The spiritual eye.
Visualize or feel that a peaceful white light is pouring into your entire being at this point,
Illuminating your whole body from the inside out.
Feel the energy and the light of the spiritual eye.
Bringing the hands together in front of the heart in a gesture of gratitude,
Reverence and offering.
May the benefits of this practice radiate out and benefit the awakening of all beings.
Bowing the head to the heart.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Gently opening the eyes and coming back to the world.
Wishing you much peace my friends.
