Hi and welcome to this Who Am I meditation.
Today we'll be practicing a visualization of our lives and an inquiry into who we really are.
Start by sitting up straight,
But without it being uncomfortable or tense.
Now close your eyes and bring your awareness to what is happening inside of you.
Close your mouth so that you're only breathing through your nose.
Your nostrils are a better filter for incoming air and allow you to breathe more slowly and more serenely.
Completely still.
The only thing that's moving is the air coming in and out of your nostrils.
Inspect how you feel in this moment as if you were examining your emotions from the outside looking in.
Notice how the air coming in your nostrils is cooler than the air going out.
If during this meditation you feel distracted by thoughts,
It's perfectly normal and it's okay.
Whenever you realize it,
Simply bring back your attention to the cool air coming in and the warm air coming out of your nostrils.
That is to say to the present moment.
Without forcing anything and simply by observing the air coming in and out of your nostrils,
Start taking slower,
Deeper breaths.
As you keep breathing slowly,
Imagine that this air you're breathing is a magical substance that brings you joy with every inhale.
Imagine that this joy is creating a ball of light in your chest that is growing with every inhale.
As you continue to breathe,
The flow of air coming in and out is becoming thinner and thinner and you're breathing slower and slower.
Now visualize yourself when you were a six month old baby.
The people that were around you,
The place you lived,
How a normal day would feel to your six month old self.
Now visualize yourself at the age of five and try to remember your face and your body.
Try to recall what your thoughts were about,
What your preferences were,
Who were the people around you.
Now you're 10 years old.
Visualize the people around you,
Your thoughts and the things that are important to you,
Your beliefs.
You are now 20 years old.
Visualize your body,
Your face,
Your thoughts and concerns,
The people around you,
Your beliefs.
Now you're 30 years old.
Keep remembering or imagining your physical appearance at 30.
What are your preoccupations?
Who are the people around you?
What are your beliefs and preferences?
Imagine yourself or remember yourself at the age of 40.
Visualize the people around you,
Your preoccupations,
Your beliefs and preferences.
Now you're 50.
From memory or imagination,
Visualize your face and your body and visualize the people around you at 50.
What are your priorities at 50?
What are your beliefs?
Now you're 60.
Keep visualizing your body,
Your face,
The people around you,
Your thoughts,
Your beliefs,
Your preoccupations for the coming minute.
You're now 70.
You're now 80 years old.
You're at the twilight of your life.
Imagine your face and your body.
What are your concerns?
What do you care most about?
Who are the people around you?
Keep breathing slowly.
Who are you?
Who are you?
The real you has nothing to do with the state of your body,
The concerns you may have in any given moment,
The relationships in your life,
Your beliefs or preferences.
Because your body and all of your thoughts,
Sensations,
Relationships and perceptions are perpetually changing.
And the real you is that part of yourself that never changes.
It is that part of you that remains the same whether you're 5,
30 or 80.
That part of yourself,
The real you,
Is the awareness that is present and remains unchanged at every stage of your life.
It is the being capable of saying I am and of observing the world around it.
To close this meditation,
Take a moment to silently focus on the feeling of I am.
And before we end,
Inspect one more time how you feel in this moment,
As if you were examining your mood from the outside looking in.
And when you're ready,
You can slowly come out of this meditation and start noticing the surrounding sounds,
The weight of your clothes on your body,
And of course all the colors you will see when you open your eyes.
I hope this meditation was meaningful for you.
Don't worry if some emotions were released.
It often happens with this meditation and it's good for stuck emotions to flow out of the body.
I send you love and wish you all the best.
