This is a short guided practice that aims to support you if you are feeling angry or frustrated. Through a guided body scan, we come into a mindful space to check in with your body, acknowledge what is here and invite some relief in. Like most people, when you are angry, your body’s internal flames get lit up. Some people feel their blood coursing, they hold tension in their jaw, neck, or chest. Let’s get curious and see if we can cool your temperature and calm this tension.

Hi,

Since you've chosen to listen to this meditation you might be feeling pretty angry or frustrated.

I want to invite you into this space to check in with your body,

Acknowledge what is here,

And invite some relief in.

Like most people,

When you're angry your body's internal flame gets lit up.

Some people feel their blood coursing.

They hold tension in their jaw,

Neck,

Or chest.

Let's get curious and see if we can cool your temperature.

Let me invite you to take a comfortable seat.

You might find it helpful to sit with your feet firmly planted on the floor in a chair.

This might help to ground you,

Or you might prefer your meditation cushion.

Either is fine.

Now we'll start by taking a long,

Slow breath in,

Feeling our chest expand.

If you're comfortable,

Gently close your eyes and slowly exhale,

Feeling your belly expand.

In this very brief practice we're going to use some simple grounding techniques to cool you off so that you can regain control and operate from your higher self.

So,

Let's begin.

Let's do a brief body scan.

Scan down through your body and notice where you're feeling heat.

Maybe you have some heat in your throat.

Maybe your hands have some energy or they balled up.

Quickly take a sweep over your body and note the places where you're holding tightness,

Heat,

Or energy.

Maybe pay attention to your temples,

Your jaw,

Your chest.

Now we're going to sweep over the body again and see if we can get some awareness of the parts of your body that are close to those areas holding the heat or the energy.

Here you're going to expand your awareness to include the rest of your body.

For example,

If your heart is pounding,

You're going to focus on the energy around your heart,

Feeling your chest.

Let your attention wander down your arms and into your hands.

Next,

Go to another place.

Maybe your throat is tight.

You focus your attention upward and downward,

Out to the sides,

Letting your awareness go up past your chin,

Down your neck,

And drape over your shoulders.

Now let's find any other areas of the body you're not aware of.

Notice your face,

Making sure you soften your jaw.

Become aware of your shoulders,

Torso,

Arms down into your hands,

Your back,

The back of your legs,

The front of your legs,

And down into your toes.

Now you're more aware of your whole body,

And yes,

You might still have some tension there.

So let's see if we can cool that off.

There's a part of you,

Maybe your higher self,

Or maybe the part of you that doesn't want to let someone else get to you,

That we can call on now for help.

I want you to imagine there's a large,

Beautiful window in front of you.

You slide the window open,

And as you do,

You feel the cool air blowing over you.

It begins to settle those areas that were more active than the rest.

Breathing in the cool air,

Your body becomes more settled.

Those areas that were hot,

Your neck and chest,

Soften as they receive the cool breeze that is coming through the window.

Let this peaceful air surround you and cool you.

Notice the settling feeling coming over your body.

Notice any colors or feelings as you sit here,

Absorbing the peace that you have created.

Please feel free to sit here as long as you like,

Continuing to calm yourself as your breathing slows and your body cools.

Thank you.

I find this practice very helpful. Short, but effective. And I love the fact that you don't talk too calmly, since this does not help for me when feeling angry.😊
