This is a self-inquiry meditation.
In this practice,
I will invite you to ask yourself a few simple questions,
But ask them in a way that just invites an answer without looking for or seeking or making up an answer,
Almost as if you're dropping a pebble into a still pond of water and just watching the ripples flow out.
So now I invite you to just sit up comfortably with a good upright posture.
Allow your eyelids to close if that's comfortable for you,
Or else allow your eyelids to close halfway with a soft downward focus,
And take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in.
Hold it for a moment and let it go,
And another long,
Slow,
Deep breath in.
Hold it for a moment and let it go,
And one more long,
Slow,
Deep breath in.
Hold it for a moment and let it go,
And now just allow your breath to return to its normal pace and rhythm and depth,
And just become aware of your breath,
The sensations in your body as you breathe in,
As you breathe out,
Just allowing yourself to be aware of these sensations for a few moments.
Becoming aware of your heart,
The area around your heart,
We call this the heart center.
As you breathe in,
Imagine that you're breathing in through your heart center,
And imagine just a warm,
Glowing light deep within you,
And as you breathe in,
Just imagine that warm,
Glowing light becoming brighter and brighter.
As you exhale,
Exhale from your heart center,
Breathing in love,
Breathing out peace.
Now as you continue,
With the next breath,
Just ask yourself,
Without seeking an answer,
Without making up a story,
Just ask yourself a simple question,
Who am I?
Silently asking yourself,
Who am I?
Once again asking silently as if dropping a small pebble into a still pool of water,
Who am I?
And once again asking,
Who am I?
With the next breath,
Ask yourself a new question,
How can I best love myself?
How can I best love myself?
Again silently asking,
Without searching for or expecting an answer,
How can I best love myself?
And again,
How can I best love myself?
And with the next breath,
Asking a new question silently,
Without searching for or making up a story about a new question,
What is my heart's desire?
What is my heart's desire?
What is my heart's desire?
And again,
What is my heart's desire?
What is my heart's desire?
Let go now of any of the questions and any answers that may have come forward for you in this time.
Just allow your attention to return to your breath.
Just notice that when you're breathing in,
You're breathing in.
When you're breathing out,
You're breathing out.
We'll continue silently for about two more minutes.
Just focus on your breath during this time.
If your mind wanders,
If you find that you're having thoughts about anything that's perfectly normal and it's okay,
Just gently and kindly return your attention back to your breath.
I'll keep track of the time and I'll sound the bowl and bring you back out of the meditation in its time.
What is my heart's desire?
What is my heart's desire?
Continue with your eyes closed,
Taking a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in,
Holding it for a moment and letting it go.
Taking a few more deep breaths,
You can begin to move your fingers and toes a little bit when you're ready.
Stretching your arms and legs,
Giving yourself a little time to transition from deep meditation back into a full state of wakefulness.
When you're ready to open your eyes,
Open them slowly with a soft downward focus of two or three feet in front of you.
I have found that this meditation can be very powerful.
You may or may not receive answers on the conscious level,
But sometimes these processes work deep within ourselves.
Just allow an answer to come forward in its time when you're ready for it.
Thank you for allowing me to share this meditation with you,
And I hope you have a beautiful day.
