This practice is designed to support our ability to be patient no matter what challenges life may throw us. It's a way of cultivating equanimity and acceptance. Regular practicing of patience in meditation is like planting the seeds so that the quality of patience is available for us when we need it in our everyday life.

Welcome to this practice on patience,

Taking your time to find a comfortable position,

Which might be sitting down,

Laying down.

You're even welcome to do this walking,

Standing,

Whatever works best for you.

There's no rush to find that comfortable position.

Tuning in to how you feel inside and what might be right for you at the moment.

And then when you're in that position,

Allowing the body to relax in its own time,

Softening through the muscles of the face,

Releasing any tightness in the lower back,

Resting the hands softly,

Letting the shoulders fall down away from the ears,

Easing any tension in the legs.

And when you feel as relaxed as you can be in this moment,

Noticing whereabouts in the body,

You can feel the breath most distinctly.

And also noticing if there's any urge to rush to find the breath or to get to this next stage of the practice.

Again,

You can take your time.

And then when you've found that place,

Letting your attention rest lightly there,

Resting with the movement of the breath,

The sensations created in the body by that movement of the breath,

Allowing your body to breathe however it needs to.

It might be deep,

It might be deep,

It might be shallow,

It might be a combination.

And just patiently being with each individual breath.

Though it's very natural that there will be distractions,

And here's an opportunity to notice the attitude that we bring towards those distractions and towards ourself.

Is there a quality of impatience?

Why are those distractions there?

Or maybe there's a feeling of patience.

I'm human.

That's what my mind is designed to do,

To think sounds will occur.

And with patience,

We can return our attention back to the breath.

Being with this moment,

Can you give yourself that space to not be rushing off into the thing that needs to come next?

Instead to be here now,

To be with the breath that you're breathing right now,

Pausing to be with this breath,

And being with this breath.

And before we finish up,

You might like to set an intention for how you can bring patience into the rest of your day,

Or at least imagining how that might occur.

And then taking your time whenever you're ready,

If your eyes are closed,

You're welcome to open them and to continue with your day.

Thank you for joining me.
