The mind is like a lake, when the lake is stirred up it can be muddy and unclear. When the lake settles, we can see through to the bottom. When the mind settles, it too can become clear. In this meditation, you are guided into a place of stillness.

This meditation is called quieting the mind.

One of my favorite analogies is the mind is like a lake.

When we walk into a lake,

We stir up everything on the bottom and the lake becomes all murky and we can't see the bottom.

But when we get out and we allow the lake to settle,

We're then able to see clearly to the bottom.

And the same is true of our mind.

When we let go of the mind and we allow the mind to settle through the practice of meditation,

We are able to see our true selves.

We are able to see what the mind does to cloud our vision.

And so through the practice of meditation,

We can learn to calm the mind and see our true sense of who we are.

So I invite you to close your eyes.

Find yourself in the presence of the now and become aware of what you're sitting on.

Feel the support underneath you or behind you.

Allowing yourself to relax deeper into the space.

Allowing all your worries to be put aside for a later time.

On your next inhale,

Lengthen it for a count of four.

So inhale one two three four and exhale one two three four.

Do a couple more of those on your own.

And allow the breath to resume its natural pace.

Just feel all your energy drop inside your body.

Feeling what it feels like to be in your body.

Doing a quick scan and seeing where you can release and let go.

Relaxing deeper into this moment.

Now attune gently to the heart space.

See if you can feel the loving presence and energy here.

You may also witness the breath as it comes and goes easily.

Try and keep your awareness here.

If the mind wanders and you witness yourself thinking,

You can ask yourself,

Who is thinking this thought?

Or where is this coming from?

And when you're able to return your awareness to the breath or to the heart space,

Can you still sense the energy in the heart?

Are you able to witness the breath without trying to control it?

Again,

When the thoughts come up,

You can ask yourself,

Who is thinking this thought?

Continue to bring your awareness back to the heart.

The breath,

Once you realize your mind has drifted away,

Once you realize your mind has drifted,

This is a practice of returning home to your true self.

Take a moment to have gratitude for yourself,

For taking the time to complete this practice.

You can place your hand over your heart to tell yourself,

Thank you.

I appreciate you.

I see you.

I love you.

And now take a moment to set an intention for today.

How do you want to show up in the world today once you leave this space?

And when you feel ready,

You can gently open your eyes.
