In the Lakota tradition, which is grounded in respect and reverence for the natural world, calling upon the four directions is the usual way to begin any ceremony. Each direction is associated with an element of the natural world and represents some part of our human nature as well. The directions are not seen as separate and isolated, but rather as part of the interdependent system that makes up the world.

Into the ancient prayer of the Lakotas,

The prayer to the Great Spirit.

Great Spirit who comes out of the East,

Come to us with the power of the East.

We are thankful for the light of the rising Sun.

Let there be light on the path we walk.

Let us always remember and be thankful for this guidance.

You give the gift of a new day,

Spirit of creation.

Now we turn to the South.

We are thankful for sending us warm and soothing winds from the South to comfort us and caress us when we are tired and cold.

Unfold us as your gentle breezes unfold the leaves of the trees.

And as you give to all the earth your warm moving wind,

Give us warmth.

And we are grateful.

We are grateful so that we may grow close to you.

And in our third eye,

Let us face the West,

The direction of sundown.

Oh great giving,

Life-giving Spirit,

We turn to the West,

The direction of sundown.

And as we do so,

We remember that every day the moment will come when our Sun will go down.

Never let us forget that we must fade into you.

Give us beautiful color.

Give us a great sky for setting so that when it's time to meet you,

We come to you with glory.

Great Spirit of love,

Come to us with the power of the North.

The power of the North makes us courageous when the cold winds of life fall upon us.

Give us strength and endurance for everything that is harsh.

Give us strength and endurance for everything in life that hurts,

Everything in life that makes us squint.

And let us move through life ready to take what comes from the North.

Great Spirit of the sky,

Lift us up to you that our hearts may connect with you,

May come to you in glory.

May we hold in our memory that you are the creator greater than we,

Eager for our good life.

Let everything that is in the world lift our minds and our hearts and our lives to you.

Lift us so that we may come to you always in truth and in heart.

Giver of all life,

We look up to you from the earth.

Help us to remember as we touch the earth that we are little and need your grace.

Help us to be thankful for the gift of the earth and never to walk hurtfully on this world.

Bless us with eyes to love what comes from mother earth and teach us how to use your gifts well.

Man-mana bhava.

Man-mana bhava.

Man-mana bhava.

Let us bring our hands to our heart chakra in prayer position,

Acknowledging this moment,

Acknowledging how I feel right now,

Acknowledging this divine sacred community,

The soul tribe with souls literally from every continent praying,

Meditating with us right now.

Final gratitude in the heart.

Noticing the shift of energy because of your vibrations in this last 30 minutes,

How it has transformed not just you but your space around you.

Now I want you to rub your palms against each other,

Kindling the chi,

The life force,

Prana.

Rub them nice and swift such that you ignite a beautiful warm ball of this life force.

The palms are an energy vortex and as you activate them you ignite prana.

And then I want you to take your palms and cup both your eyes,

One with each palm,

And bless yourself with this chi.

May complete clarity reign in my mind.

May health reign in my body and love reign in my heart.

This is a moment of self care,

Self love.

Making sure your breathing is nice and even down into the belly.

Now I want you to take your palms and make them face outwards as if you're sending a blessing,

A blessing to Mother Earth,

Envisioning this beautiful ball of blue,

White,

Green,

Brown in its magnificent shades rotating ever so gently in this vast arena of space.

And on it every story you've ever heard,

Every soul you've ever known,

Every creature that has ever lived calls this home.

And as if there is a beam of light emerging from your heart and from the center of your palms,

Let's send a blessing to our home,

Our planet,

And all of our brothers and sisters,

All life.

Giving it light,

Giving it love,

And acknowledging everything we've taken from it.

It has sustained us unconditionally.

It's never questioned us even as we begin to exploit,

Disrespect,

Abuse almost.

This light heal the differences,

The suffering,

The disconnection that we creatures have had with everything that is so deeply intertwined.

And may there be respect for every form of life and all of the resources.

For our fate is tied to the fate of this planet,

Our Mother Earth.

Bring your hands back to the heart center in prayer position.

Take a moment of gratitude,

Bowing down to everyone and everything that made this moment possible.

And as we come out of this practice,

Ask yourself,

How do you feel right now?

And if we had to summarize that feeling in one word,

What would that be?

And I want you to please go ahead and share that word in the comment section.

Balanced ~~πŸ’›~~ is my one word . I actually feel two things after doing this wonderful meditation. Hopeful for the earth 🌍 and balanced within by all the directions 🧭 east ,west, south and north . This is very healing β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή we have all been under so much in past two years .. not just personally ….as a world together . Uniting is the only way and I am hopeful we all ,one voice at a time can stand on this earth 🌍 together as one . I’m also feeling deep gratitude for this prayer. πŸ™ πŸ’š bookmarked and recommended. β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ€
