
Evening Meditation: Letting Go
This meditation focuses on the theme of letting go. Sometimes we’re stressed and overwhelmed because of all the things we’re carrying with us. So, this meditation involves looking at letting things go so we can open ourselves up to more opportunities. Music by Music Of Wisdom

Welcome,
And thank you for joining me for this short guided meditation.
Today we're going to be focusing on noticing what we might be carrying that we can let go of and beginning to release any unhelpful thoughts,
Limiting beliefs,
Or any heaviness that's no longer serving us.
So I'll invite you to get into a comfortable position,
Whatever that looks like to you.
Seated or laying down,
Just choosing what's most comfortable.
Blinking your eyes closed as long as that's comfortable and beginning to direct your attention and your awareness inward.
For the next little while,
You know that everything external can wait.
There's nothing else you need to do or say.
This time is simply reserved for you and for you to focus on the present moment.
So begin by taking a couple of deep breaths,
Beginning to extend the length of how you're currently breathing,
To invite in an additional layer of intentionality and to focus on the present moment because our breath is such a great connector with the present moment.
We can't take back a breath that we've already breathed and we can't make a future breath come more quickly than the present moment.
So you know that when you focus on your breath,
You're focusing completely on the present.
So taking those deep breaths,
Maybe letting a sigh or two come out through your mouth to really symbolize that you are starting to release,
That you are ready to focus on the present,
That you are ready to go inward.
And once you've completed those couple rounds of deep breaths,
Allow your breathing to return to a more natural rhythm,
One that you can keep with you throughout the rest of this practice.
Simply breathing in and out through your nostrils,
Scanning our body to notice if there are any areas of clear tension or holding that we could be releasing.
Because when we calm our body,
Our mind starts to calm down as well.
Relaxing all of your facial muscles,
All of the muscles around your eyes,
Relaxing your jaw,
Your shoulders,
Relaxing each of your palms,
Allowing them to come to rest in a comfortable position.
And relaxing through your belly,
Through your hips,
Down into your legs,
And the soles of your feet,
Telling your body that there's nowhere it needs to take you right now so it can come to rest.
And now that we've brought our awareness to our body and our breath,
We're going to bring a little bit of attention to our mind.
Often times we're stressed and overwhelmed because of all the things that we're carrying with us,
Limiting beliefs,
Unhelpful thoughts,
Expectations we've placed on ourselves or that others have placed on us,
Worries about the future even though we don't know how it will unfold,
Or ruminations on the past when the past is already complete and sometimes the best thing we can do is simply to learn from it.
So noticing for just a moment what seems to be taking up a lot of space,
What seems to be heavy on your mind right now,
What are you carrying with you?
Seeing this exploration without judgment,
Simply awareness.
And in addition to exploring your mind,
You may also want to take a moment here to explore your heart because a lot of these limiting beliefs,
A lot of this weight might also be on your heart.
Just checking in lovingly,
Noticing what's there,
Noticing what comes up.
Taking a deep breath in,
Letting a big sigh out through your mouth.
Knowing that again if it felt good.
And I'd like you to visualize for a moment that you're walking along a path,
A path in a beautiful forest and it's a little uphill so it's taking you a little longer than you thought it would.
It's a little bit more difficult to walk up this path than you thought initially but you are determined because you have a feeling that what's waiting for you at the end is completely worth it.
And so you continue to walk and as you do,
You notice that you have four backpacks on you.
And you think to yourself,
There is no way that I need all four of these backpacks.
Why am I carrying them with me?
And those backpacks represent all of the limiting beliefs,
The unhelpful thoughts,
The worries and expectations that were on your heart and your mind.
And so I want you to begin removing those backpacks one by one,
Setting them down,
Emptying them out,
Knowing that you don't need them,
That you don't need to hold on to them anymore,
That you can simply begin to let go.
Taking a deep breath in,
With that sigh out you can let go of anything additional that you need to,
Knowing you don't need to hold on to it.
And then I want you to continue walking down that path,
Noticing how much easier it is without all that weight on your back,
Without all that heaviness on your heart or on your mind.
You might even start to pick up the pace a little bit and when you get to the end,
The forest opens up,
The trees part ways and you look up into the evening sky to see thousands and thousands of stars shining.
And you smile because you know that all of these stars represent the endless opportunities that are available to you,
The endless abundance that is available to you.
All of your dreams and desires are waiting for you.
You simply had to let go of those things that were holding you back.
Getting a sense of peace,
Knowing that you are all that you need.
Together let's take one final deep breath in,
Soaking in all that goodness,
All that opportunity.
Bringing out a big sigh or sound through your mouth,
Letting anything final go before allowing yourself to return to your space,
Bringing your awareness back to your body,
Moving or stretching in any way that you need and when you're ready,
Opening back up your eyes.
