Notice how you are feeling right now.
Do I feel calm?
On edge?
Awake?
Aw,
Drowsy?
Noticing whatever mood you are presently in.
In this meditation,
We will try out one of the most popular methods for stilling the mind.
Namely,
The use of a mantra.
Mantra simply means using a word or a phrase as a meditation object.
Some mantras have a meaning and some are deliberately nonsensical in order to avoid stirring up associations.
The mantra we will be using for this meditation is the one traditionally used by the meditation masters in Thailand.
The word,
Buttho.
Buttho is a grammatical variant of the word,
Butta,
Which means awake or aware.
Thus,
It constantly reminds us of the state we are letting go into.
Just start repeating the word silently to yourself,
Either using your voice or just mentally.
Finding a speed and rhythm that you like and just being aware of the experience.
Buttho.
Buttho.
To begin with,
I find it helpful to move around the various aspects of the experience in order to facilitate the spacious,
Embracing attitude of mindfulness.
For example,
We can start with paying attention to the bodily sensations connected with the production of the sound,
Buttho.
Even if you are just reciting it mentally,
You will notice the slight activation of the muscles implicated in the pronunciation.
In the lips,
Tongue,
Face,
Jaw,
Throat,
Chest and abdomen.
Just staying with that for a while.
.
See if you can relate to this quiet recitation in such a way that it calms you,
Opens you,
And anchor you in the here and now.
Don't be afraid of playing with it,
Experimenting to find what works for you.
Blood,
Tongue,
Blood,
Tongue.
Noticing the experience of the sound of the mantra,
Either the heard sound or the sound of the mentally perceived sound.
Just listening.
Listen.
In the beginning,
The recitation might feel quite volitionally produced,
And we have the sense that we're controlling the pacing and rhythm of it.
Once we've gotten it going,
We can allow the dialing back of some of this control.
Instead of forcefully evoking the next syllable,
We just wait for the mind to produce it itself,
And we are just listening.
Letting good linger in the mind until the mind responds with to.
Then again,
Just letting go,
Lingering awareness until put appears.
So move This effortlessness makes it easier to connect with the meaning of the mind.
The meaning of Buddha.
Just being aware,
Being awake to the ever-present reality of awareness.
While meditating,
We are simply seeing what the mind has been doing all along.
We are seeing what the mind has been doing all along.
In my practice,
I was too concerned with the object of meditation.
I thought I'd find the truth out there.
But the real point is discovering that which is mindful,
Rather than the specific objects we are mindful of.
Not knowing how near the truth is,
We seek it far away.
There is no commitment for being aware by what we might have seen.
Just keeping the essence of butthole in mind.
Being that knowing presence.
Being that knowing presence.
Being that knowing presence.
Being that knowing presence.
Being that knowing presence.
Being that knowing presence.
Being that knowing presence.
Being that knowing presence.
Just staying with this bare awareness that in itself isn't produced.
It just is.
The great Zen master Bodhidharma said,
Most eluded people don't realize that their own mind is the Buddha.
Three.
It's all we see.
