Grounding as you walk.
This is a short version of the more traditional and longer walking meditation.
Pick a place to do grounding,
Perhaps a hallway you walk down several times a day.
As you walk,
Direct your mind to your feet.
Feel the support of the floor and extend that sense of support all the way down into the earth.
The Buddha pointed out that the earth receives anything we throw on it without complaint.
Blood,
Pus,
Clean water,
Vomit,
Honey,
Urine,
And feces.
This can happen to us in medicine,
Both literally and figuratively.
The earth has witnessed countless epidemics and received millions of bodies into its embrace.
And still,
Days and nights trade places,
Spring comes,
Trees put forth new leaves,
Flowers bloom,
And bees gather nectar.
Can you feel the equanimity of the earth,
How it continually supports you wherever you go?
Can you breathe in that stability,
That equanimity up from the ground into your own being?
You can also do this grounding,
A pause that refreshes,
While sitting at your desk in your office.
