Surrendering Your Efforts
by Jana Johnson
This guided meditation is for those feeling overwhelmed, anxious or wanting to release their efforts towards a topic or relationship that they've been working on but continue to come up against a wall.
Transcript
As we begin this meditation,
Find yourself in a comfortable position,
Whether you're seated on the floor,
On a cushion,
Or in a chair.
Keeping your spine straight,
With the rest of your body relaxed,
And if you need to move your shoulders around if you need to loosen your jaw.
Work out any of the fidgeting in your legs,
Your ankles,
Your hands,
Your arms.
And then find yourself in this comfortable position.
Really aware of your body,
So taking some deep breaths through the nose,
Doing a 1,
2,
3 breath.
In the 1 count breathing into the chest,
In the 2 count breathing into the belly,
And in the 3 count breathing into the lower abdomen,
And then on the 3 count reverse it,
Exhale the lower abdomen,
To the belly,
1 the chest.
So taking 3 big breaths like that,
Chest,
Belly,
Abdomen,
Abdomen,
Belly,
Chest.
And as you breathe deep into the abdomen,
Take in as much breath to feel the whole pelvic area,
And even the genitals expanding and then releasing.
Feeling the breath,
The prana,
Moving through the front body,
The back body,
Into the legs and the arms,
To the feet and the hands,
And up into the shoulders and the neck,
Filling the head and the face,
And coming back to your regular breath.
Pay close attention to your mouth,
Your lips,
Your tongue,
Your teeth,
Your jaw,
Moving those around if they feel tight or constricted in any way.
You might focus on the sound of your breath through the nose.
And this meditation can be used really at any time,
But in particular it's good when you have come to maybe a close of a project,
A close of a relationship,
A close of a chapter in your life,
The closing of a year as it is when I'm recording right now.
And it's a meditation of surrender and devotion.
It's a meditation around a topic that you've been working at to perhaps work through feelings or emotions or kind of constriction in the mind,
Wanting to release that,
To let that go.
Something that you've put the work into,
You've done what you can do around it,
And yet you're still finding there's some less fragments or you're still hitting a wall,
Finding yourself in the same thought or behavioral emotional patterns.
You've looked at where you may not be in alignment around the topic,
And you've taken action in whatever way you can to bring yourself as close to conscious alignment as you can get,
And yet there still seems to be some pieces lingering.
And so this meditation is about surrendering,
Surrendering your efforts,
Your mind space,
Surrendering it to something bigger than our mind,
Bigger than our human being.
It's an act of devotion to that which is larger than us,
An offering,
An offering of our mind,
Our energy.
And so when you feel calm and collected,
I'd like you to begin to envision if you're a visionary or get a sense of if you're more kinesthetic,
Of there being an altar placed in front of you,
Or perhaps a table of some sort.
And on this table,
Perhaps there's a beautiful cloth,
And perhaps this cloth has colors or shapes or symbols,
Or it may just be a piece of plain colored cloth.
And you can add anything,
A candle,
Crystals,
Sage,
Anything you'd like to this sacred table,
This sacred altar.
And on the other side of this altar,
I'd like you to call forth if you work with a deity,
A goddess,
A god,
Call that energy forth.
Perhaps it is Jesus,
Perhaps it is Isis,
Shiva,
Durga,
Mother Mary,
Mary Magdalene,
Allah.
Whichever deity you resonate with,
Whichever deity you have an affinity towards.
And if you don't have a particular form,
You can also use anything that has an animation to it for you.
It could be a mountain,
It could be a river,
It could be a tree,
It could be all of the elements in the form of Gaia,
Your divinity.
And if you have no sense of form,
Visually or kinesthetically,
You don't feel the presence of a divine form.
Perhaps you can imagine yourself,
Your higher self on the other side of this altar,
That which represents the cosmic intelligence.
Greet this deity in whatever form it takes,
With humbleness and gratitude.
And you can sit in their presence if you feel called to.
There may be a message immediately for you or not.
And then when you're ready,
Come back to those issues that you've been struggling with.
If there's a person,
Particular person,
Particular environment,
A group of people,
A situation,
Perhaps it's your own psychological issues,
Emotional issues,
Physical issues.
Gather the energy around this and set this on the altar as an offering to the Divine.
Your emotions of frustration or sadness,
Anxiety or anger,
Gather that.
Offer it to the Divine.
Place it on the altar.
Surrender your fears,
Surrender your anger,
Surrender your sadness,
Your anxiety,
Surrender it to the altar.
Ask for the grace of the Divine.
To take these from you.
Surrender your efforts.
I have done all I can and I surrender to you what is left.
If you feel you just can't take anymore that feeling of overwhelm,
That feeling of exhaustion,
Surrender it onto the altar,
Offering it to the Divine.
If you need to say words,
If you need to release any emotion,
Offer it all onto the sacred altar.
Notice the Divine.
Bring it towards them.
Letting it disappear into them as they clear the table.
There is no limit as to how much you can place on the altar.
It can hold everything.
Can hold your disbelief.
It can hold your frustration.
It can hold your exhaustion.
It can hold your illness.
Allow yourself to sit here in front of the altar facing the Divine.
Allow them to look into your eyes.
Look into your heart.
Even if you feel resistance,
Offer the resistance onto the altar.
Know that there is no right or wrong,
There is no judgment here.
You're doing your job.
You're being a human being.
You are bringing heaven onto earth.
And with this there is co-creation.
You are not left alone.
You are not abandoned.
You are not stranded.
This is how we work with the Divine.
And when you feel complete,
That you've given everything that you want to hand over.
You can pray for the grace of God,
The grace of Shiva,
The grace of Mother Nature,
The grace of Supreme Consciousness to take this suffering from you.
So that there is more space for the Divine to shine through you.
And when you are finished,
You can imagine the Divine pulling the fabric up around any remnants that remain,
Tying it into a bundle and taking it with it as it begins to fade back.
Giving thanks and appreciation and reverence.
Knowing that this work is done.
There is no more for you to do.
No more thoughts.
No more efforts.
It is done.
Breathing life back into your body.
Feeling more open space.
If you are a visual person,
You can imagine golden light,
Pink light,
Blue,
Green light coming down into your crown and filling up your body,
Filling the space that is now free with high vibration.
Energizing,
Strengthening,
Giving you power and energy to move forward now without the shackles of this suffering that you've surrendered.
Taking a few more breaths.
Rubbing your hands together,
Creating heat within the palms.
Placing one palm on the heart space.
One on the lower abdomen around the second chakra.
And when you're finished,
Allowing the eyes to flutter open.
And as you move into your day or evening,
Find the trust and faith in your Divine.
And know that you can move forward now.
Blessings be.
