Acceptance Meditation.

First just get comfortable.

If you like you can close your eyes.

Just making sure you're sitting or lying down comfortable.

Then let's start by taking a few deeper breaths.

Noticing all aspects of your breathing.

The inhales and the exhales.

Breathing in and breathing out.

And then just let your breathing be natural and normal.

Just how you always breathe when we don't remember or think of our breathing.

And then just think of something that you would like to accept.

With mindfulness we learn acceptance.

It could be something small or it could be something bigger.

Whatever comes to mind.

Just see what it feels like in your body.

Is there a place when you think of this incident or thing that you would like to accept?

Is there a place in your body where you feel it?

Observing this and watching.

It might even be accepting a discomfort or a pain that you're having.

It might be something else that's not physical.

If there is a place in your body where you can feel it,

Is it easy for you to visualize and to notice what that feels like?

Could we give it a shape?

Let's say it's a triangle or a cylinder or a square or maybe it's spiky on the surface and round.

What color would it have if you can feel this in your body?

If you can.

You might not.

And that's okay too.

Can we just watch and observe this if we do notice it in the body?

Just sitting with this without judging it.

The idea is just to observe and to notice without judgment.

And how does it make you feel if it's something that has happened to you or that involves another person?

How does this make you feel?

Acceptance is about letting go.

But voluntarily letting go.

With acceptance we turn towards our experience.

We don't try and run away from it.

This is what we call mindful acceptance.

If at some stage whatever you're trying to accept feels too difficult or it feels overwhelming,

Then you could try and just rest in your breathing.

Use your breath as an anchor.

And then if you had a little pause resting in your breathing,

If it feels okay again,

Going back to thinking of what you are trying to accept and maybe where you are noticing and feeling this in your body.

Acceptance is about present moment awareness.

Only right here,

Right now,

In this moment,

We have the choice to accept what is.

And therefore it is accepting reality.

Reality and present moment awareness are very much alike.

We have the choice to accept or to avoid.

Avoidance is not mindful acceptance.

That's the opposite.

But what we are trying to do right now is really accepting as it is.

And without holding a grudge or feeling bad about it or being annoyed or angry,

If that happens,

Then we can just observe this.

That's just a feeling,

An emotion that will pass.

Our thoughts too,

They will just pass.

They come and go.

Acceptance also starts with the body.

See if you can accept yourself right now,

From head to toe,

Just as you are.

Not wanting to change anything,

Rather just accepting as you are,

From head to toe.

Perfect as you are,

Right here,

Right now.

As we accept ourselves,

We can also learn to accept others.

Learning not to judge ourselves or others.

Letting go of judgment as well.

Just allowing everything to be as it is.

Our body,

Our breathing,

Our past,

Other people.

Knowing and accepting everything as it is.

Nothing needs changing.

Everything is okay.

What does it feel like when you tell yourself that everything is okay and everybody is okay?

Is there a sense of relief?

What comes up?

What does it feel like?

Everything is okay as it is,

Right here,

Right now.

You are not running away from anything or anybody.

You are rather accepting with love,

Loving kindness,

Without judgment.

And please know that if we just accept because we want to change,

Then we are not really accepting.

Because we still want change to happen.

We still try and control instead of allowing.

Acceptance all the means,

Letting go of control.

Now whatever you tried to accept today,

If it was yourself or someone else or something that has happened,

How does it feel right now?

How do you feel about this?

Do you feel different about it or the same?

It's best if we can practice this acceptance more than just once.

And also practice with patience.

Be patient with yourself.

It might feel different now and it might not.

Both are okay.

That's real acceptance when we just learn to let go of control and to just accept what is right here,

Right now.

Things have changed and they might not.

Accepting both as they are.

Accepting everything,

Including yourself,

Right here,

Right now.

You can just sit with this for another little while,

As long as you wish.

Or you might choose to transition right now,

Back into the room where you're sitting or lying.

And taking this loving acceptance with you.

Great! And I like the fact that there is no background music. I know some people enjoy that but I find it very distracting.

Very powerful. For some reason, although I have been working on learning this skill for years, this particular meditation was very clarifying for me and I began to see acceptance in a new way. It was difficult emotionally but Very valuable; I will come back to this often. Namaste.
