How often do you take the time to play? As adults, we’re often so focused on work and family commitments that we never seem to make time for pure fun. Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, we stopped playing. This guided visualisation will help you tap into your playful inner child, helping you unwind and get out of that exhausting mental work mode. Genuine play is radically stimulating, thought-provoking, and drives creativity. Go on, let’s play

As adults we often get stuck in our ways and rigidity is one of the main themes in unhappiness.

The other day I actually heard a really interesting statistic that said 95% of your thoughts are the same day in and day out.

To break our patterns we need to do things differently.

Playfulness opens up a world of possibilities.

Make your way to a comfortable seated or lying position and gently close down your eyes.

Bring your focus to your breath.

Breathe in and out through your nose filling and emptying your lungs.

Now picture yourself taking a morning stroll down a beautiful sandy beach.

There's no one around.

The sun is shining,

The birds are singing and the waves are gently rolling in.

The temperature is just perfect and you feel the salty breeze cooling your skin.

As you walk feel the sand in between your toes and leave all of your worries behind.

Today you're going to focus all of your attention on just having fun.

You walk towards the sea and you enter the deep blue waters.

You turn around to face the shore letting the sun warm your skin.

You stretch your arms out wide and let yourself fall back into the water trusting that it will catch you.

Ah that felt good.

What else can you do for fun?

You spot a big beautiful banyan tree over in the distance.

You decide to climb it.

When you get to the top you enjoy stunning views across the whole beach.

You close your eyes for just a moment and listen to the sound of the waves rolling in.

Your breath starts to move with the rhythm of the waves.

What next?

You jump down and you decide to collect some shells.

There are all shapes and sizes lining the whole beach front and they're just so beautiful.

Continue to create your day of fun.

You can run down the beach,

Scream,

Sing,

Shout to a cartwheel.

You are free,

Free as a bird.

Let the beach be your playground.

Play like a child.

Slowly begin to come back into your body.

Come back to the present moment.

Take a few deep inhales and a few deep exhales.

And whenever you're ready gently open up your eyes.

Have a wonderful day.

This meditation brought tears to my eyes as I realized how I have spent my life mostly fearful of playfulness, locked in the fear of reprisal for letting go. How sad, but what better time to begin to have fun now at age 78!
