This Quiz/Meditation is for you if you are a beginner, or if you are someone who doubts your ability to meditate - especially in that classic, in the moment, 'mindful' way. By the end of this piece, it is my hope and intention that you begin to feel that you are just as worthy a meditator as anyone else and that you can begin to let go of any self-doubt that may be surrounding your experience. So can you, or can't you, meditate?

Hi,

I'm Jack.

Welcome to the mindfulness quiz.

This is for you if you are a beginner or if you are someone who doubts or just sometimes doubts your ability to meditate,

Especially in that classic,

In-the-moment,

Mindful way.

It is my hope and intention that by the end of this short quiz you will feel just as worthy a meditator as anyone else and that you are able to let go of any self-doubt that may be surrounding your experience.

Okay,

So let's do a short warm-up.

Let's just take a few deep breaths in and out.

Make sure you're super comfy and that your body is in a shape that feels soothing.

And if you feel safe to do so you can close your eyes.

There will be 10 questions and they will just roll one into the next.

Okay,

I invite you to ask yourself and to answer in your own mind.

Right now,

Which word best describes the direction of my breath,

Either straight or curved,

As it enters and leaves my body?

And what if I was allowed to describe it differently?

What would I say?

Can I hear my breath?

And what parts of my body is it inspiring to move?

Can I breathe into and out of my hands?

Right through the palms?

And what about into and out of my heart?

And if my breath was a colour right now,

A really warm colour,

What would it be?

Can I choose a part of my body,

Perhaps one that feels tense or has been feeling tense,

And breathe into and out of it?

And how does this make me feel?

And what if I say at the same time,

I am healing this part of me?

How does it feel?

And finally,

Can I sense somewhere inside me,

Perhaps deep within my heart,

A smile?

And if I can,

Can I let it play out on my lips?

In your own time,

You can open your eyes,

Stretch your fingers and toes,

Hands,

Feet if you need to.

Congratulations,

You have successfully completed the mindfulness quiz.

How do I know?

Because just by choosing to engage with this quiz,

You chose to engage with yourself.

And that's what mindfulness is all about.

You listened,

You got curious,

Asked questions,

You utilised your senses,

And you hung out in the moment.

We hung out in the moment.

Very cool.

And perhaps most importantly,

There is no wrong or right way to meditate.

Ultimately,

It is a journey of self-discovery,

A conversation with the self that is unique to you.

And so,

Yes,

There are different practices,

Techniques,

Styles,

But you are free.

You are free to choose what resonates with you.

And you are free to develop your own style of mindfulness,

Your own style of communicating with yourself,

Because ultimately,

It is about the way that you communicate with you.

So mindfulness meditation is this easy and this much fun.

And the most profound and beautiful thing is when you chat to yourself like this in the moment with a warm attitude,

Just by being in the moment,

You are changing,

You are creating hope,

You are awakening acceptance,

And you are nurturing trust.

That is the magic that comes with being in the moment.

Here's a little an acronym I use to remind myself of the power of chatting to myself.

It is C-H-A-T,

Chat,

Change,

Hope,

Acceptance,

Trust.

When I chat to myself with compassion,

I change,

I create hope,

I awaken acceptance,

And I nurture trust.

So not only have you got a big tick next to your ability to meditate,

You have just co-created with the universe some amazing qualities.

This meditation is really helpful. I often say I struggle with mindfulness. This quiz and explanation afterwards shed new light on the term mindfulness. I will listen to it again to hear the “CHAT” explanation. I found the teacher’s voice pleasant and welcoming. Many thanks.
