Meditation is a resourceful tool for calming stress and also difficult emotions.

By observing your emotional state with a sense of neutrality and detachment,

You can experience your emotions without feeling overwhelmed by them.

In the following meditation,

We'll practice awareness meditation of our emotions together with visualization.

Take this time to find a comfortable seat.

Sit with your spine tall and free.

Let your whole body be comfortable and relaxed.

Take a few relaxing breaths,

Inhaling,

Exhaling,

Letting go.

Inhale,

Renewed energy.

Exhale,

Let go of any old or stagnant energy.

Observe yourself sitting,

Taking this time to open the observer perspective.

Become aware now of your emotional state.

What are you experiencing now in this moment?

See if you can observe your inner state without attachment or resistance.

Becoming more and more aware of the way you feel.

You may relate your emotions to a color,

A sensation,

Or image.

Notice where you feel your emotions in your body.

What are the inner sensations connected to the emotions that you experience?

See what it's like to be aware of your emotions as they are without trying to change them or make them wrong or right.

Simply observing your emotions and letting them be as they are.

Acknowledging and being aware of your emotional state can help you naturally shift your own experience of your emotions.

Let yourself breathe and relax.

Observe yourself with self-compassion.

Now envision a calm,

Still lake.

Let your emotions and mind settle and become still like a deep pool of water.

Maintain this sense of calmness throughout your day by affirming,

I relax and calm my emotions.

A relaxing and supportive practice. This meditation was really effective at helping connect with the feeling of distressing emotions in my body and to smooth out the turbulent train of thoughts. The gentle cadence of the words and background music was very soothing. I really appreciated the calm lake visualization and idea of the emotions settling in the still waters. Really great practice overall.
