This thing that we're on,
I like to always call it a journey.
You hear it as a path,
A journey.
And in this journey that we're on,
You can call it as life,
You can call it of your meditation journey,
Maybe you call it your spiritual journey,
Maybe you call it your anxiety journey,
Whatever it is that gets us into this practice of self-help or whatever you would want to call it.
In this journey,
We go on trials and we have things that come up and the whole purpose of them coming up is to help us to heal,
To help us to become whole,
To help us to let go.
And at the core,
I think of all of the great spiritual and religious traditions,
That is the purpose for us to find healing towards wholeness,
To become whole,
Connected and our best loving sense of who we are and what we want to be and do in this world.
And this practice that we're going to do today is inspired based on these two religious holidays that we have found ourselves in,
And that is both Easter and Passover.
And I'll share about Passover first,
Understanding the story of the Jews being freed from Egypt,
From slavery by the prophet Moses in order to find peace,
Find the promised land eventually.
And that sense of slavery,
Looking at that symbolically,
Which I like to look at a lot of these stories and understanding,
Well,
Okay,
That's great that happened.
That's a story.
But how can I implement this story symbolically into my own life?
And the way I see that story as,
Well,
A lot of times our minds create the slave,
We're slaves to our minds,
Right?
We're slaves to our habits.
We're slaves and we are creating this small constricted sense of ourself.
And often we have to call on our inner prophet.
Our inner prophet is what gets us out of this as we go on this path and we learn and we let go and we are free.
We're moving more into a sense of freedom and peace.
So seeing that us calling on that inner prophet for us to grow and to transform.
And I love even the idea of the parting of the Red Sea and in psychology or more Jungian symbolic psychology,
Looking at the unconscious,
The ocean,
Water,
The sea is represented as fear and chaos.
And so the symbol of getting to the fear,
Moses clearing the sea so you can walk through and you see that as you get to fear,
As you walk through it,
It clears.
And so taking that into our lives of what is scaring us,
Right?
As we continue to grow and move towards our fear,
Working with our fear,
That is how we grow and evolve.
And then moving into the symbolism of the death and the resurrection on this path.
Often it feels like we leave a sense of who we were in our past,
Right?
We let that go and at some point we start to shift into this new version of ourselves and we're always going on these little mini death and rebirth.
We're always letting go of something in order for something new to come into our lives and for us to evolve and to grow on our own journey.
And sometimes it happens radically,
Sometimes it happens slowly.
And one of my favorite quotes that reminds me of this concept is,
The two most important days of your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.
And that's by Mark Twain.
And that again might happen drastically.
You might have a shift that it could cause or it's progressive as we continue to move on this journey forward.
And so we're going to work with these themes in our practice today and go from there.
Alright,
So wherever you're at,
Allow your body to start to settle and close down your eyes.
And beginning to allow your way to feel your body start to sink down,
Feeling the connection of your feet on the floor.
Feeling the connection of your sit bones on your chair or your cushion.
Allowing yourself to connect with the earth element beneath you.
Splitting the cells of the body start to slow down here.
The heaviness of the legs sink down,
The feet grow heavier.
And noticing if there's any tension in the neck or the shoulders and seeing if we can just ease the shoulders down your back almost as like a way to release any stored up tension that might be in the neck.
And from our foundation,
Keeping the centeredness,
Keeping the rootedness,
But also finding a wakefulness and an alertness through our upper body and our torso.
And so maybe that's just a gentle lift to your upper chest.
It could feel like the crown of your head lengthening towards the sky.
And just feeling that opposing nature,
Always grounding down,
But also opening and being alert.
Connecting up towards the sky,
Towards all around us.
And then we're going to invite a sense of relaxation down our whole body.
And so starting imagining this at the crown of your head and almost like this wave of relaxation that starts to move down your forehead.
The eyes,
The nose,
The mouth,
Check that there's any tension in the jaw and release that.
And continuing this wave down your neck,
Your chest,
Shoulders,
Arms,
The ribs,
Down through the navel,
Through the hips,
The thighs,
Knees.
All the way down through your feet.
And that full body wave of relaxation.
Now bringing in some awareness to your breathing to further guide that release and further guide that relaxation.
And so as you breathe in,
You're connecting with that alertness,
You're connecting with that expansion that kind of moves out and up.
And as you breathe out,
You fall a little bit into the ground,
Into that earth element,
Further rooting.
Allow a few of your own breaths to both enliven and continue to settle and ground you.
And then we're going to continue our grounding in what I like to call grounding in gratitude.
And so keeping with the breath,
But in inviting this element of thanks,
Maybe thanks for the breath,
Thanks for the heartbeat,
Thanks for just the simple fact of being healthy today.
And healthy enough to at least come to a meditation and give your energy to this,
Especially in the times that we're in.
Now with each breath,
Feeling that thanks come in.
Moving that thanks outward.
And maybe with your inhale,
You bring in more well-being,
More vitality,
Healing your own essence of health.
And as you breathe out,
Sending thanks for that health,
Feeling and sending that gratitude.
We're now going to keep with that intention,
But shift the awareness a little bit.
So instead of just feeling the breath,
Maybe at one point move in and out.
I'd like you to imagine as if your whole body was breathing in and out.
And so it's as if every pore of your body was breathing in energy of vitality and well-being.
And every pore of your body was breathing out feelings of gratitude and thanks.
And just follow that for a few rounds.
And then together,
We're all going to take a full body breath in and a full breath out.
I'm going to move your awareness from your body to your mind and wherever you feel the mind is.
And often we see it in our head.
Sometimes some people have a more expanded view of that or a different view of mind.
So whatever resonates with you.
And what this path frees us from is our mind.
And every wisdom tradition tells us in some way that we suffer because we don't perceive things correctly.
Our mind is jailing us in this constricted sense of ourself.
And so thinking about where has your mind been keeping you constricted?
Where has it been holding you back?
What keeps you feeling small?
Maybe it's anxiety or fear,
A limiting belief,
I'm not good enough in some way.
And holding this with kindness and maybe even to feel that constriction,
Maybe imagine these like bars that are coming down outside of your body,
Outside of your mind and moving down,
Kind of constricting you here into this small sense of self,
Holding it with kindness.
And once you have a sense of what is maybe holding you back,
This stuck energy that's in your body,
I'd like you to imagine that you're beginning to move this energy from outside of your body or inside of your body,
Outside of your body.
So maybe feeling with each breath all that constriction,
That limitedness,
Feeling it move out of your body right in front of you.
And then just outside those bars is that jail cell that you created.
And then once you've gotten them outside,
I'd like you to thank them,
Thank them for showing you your work.
Right?
Without these things,
We wouldn't know where to grow in our lives.
If we were born enlightened,
The journey wouldn't be any fun.
We've kind of been born and we won.
We have to go through these stages in our life for us to grow and to heal and to become whole.
So as you thank them,
I'd like you to begin to breathe in a feeling of expansion.
And then breathe out constriction.
And then breathe in freedom.
And breathe out stuckness.
And continue with one or both of those,
Breathing in that free and expansive quality and breathing out any stuck energy and constricted energy.
And as you do that,
Imagine the bar is starting to come down.
Imagine the energy starting to melt away.
Imagine maybe the spirit around you start to widen and expand.
And then your breath gets blown off of your mind and your mind is as wide as the sky.
Breathing and feeling and resting in that expansion,
Resting in that limitless sense of self.
What would that feel like?
And then we're going to let that go and together we'll take a full breath in and a full breath out.
I'm going to have you now just reflect on who you were before you started your journey.
And you can take that word journey and however resonates with you.
It could be your meditation journey.
It could be your spiritual journey,
Could be your healing journey,
Your divorce journey.
I want you to see a younger version of you.
So maybe imagine who that person is,
Maybe you even go to like an image of where you see that person,
Who you used to be before you started this journey.
And maybe you see a naive or angry or stressed or anxious version of you.
I'd like you to imagine that you're in kind of their feel,
That you're there with them.
Maybe they don't know that you're there.
I'd like you to just send them some compassion.
It's okay.
They didn't know any better.
They were just doing their best.
Send them some understanding.
And then you're going to tell them something that they really needed to hear in this moment.
Even if they didn't know they needed it.
And so imagining that you're sharing this with them,
They still don't know you're there,
But they're feeling and they're receiving this energy from you.
Saying to them,
All will be well.
You will find your way.
All will be well.
You will find your way.
And see them receiving that energy,
Even if they don't know you're there.
And then sending them that reassurance.
And then letting that go and coming back to yourself right here and right now,
Or just actually thinking about when was the moment that things changed or started to change?
When did you start your journey?
When was a shift for you?
How did you find meditation?
Was there a low point where something needed to change,
An overbearing stress or anxiety or divorce?
Or maybe it was just something that you wanted to better yourself,
A book that you read,
A class that you took,
A friend told you.
And can you see this shift as just a little mini death and rebirth,
Something had to move away for us to come onto this new journey?
I'd like you to think about all that meditation has brought into your life,
All that this journey has brought you.
I think the people that you've met,
The places,
The fears,
The highs,
The lows,
The joys,
The tears,
All of it.
What has it brought into your life?
I'd like you to find some gratitude for that.
I need thanks for being on this journey,
However early or late you are in this.
And then you're going to give yourself some much needed reassurance,
Feeling this from your center,
Sharing these words and these intentions with yourself.
All is well.
I am on my way.
All is well.
I am on my way.
See if you can embody the perfectness of where you are,
Embracing it and knowing that there's nowhere else that you can and should be.
This is it.
Perfectly aligned for you to grow and to learn more about yourself and your journey.
I am on my way.
And then letting that go.
And then lastly,
I'd like you to think about a mentor that you have that has walked this path already.
It's a little further along.
And maybe someone that you look up to that offers support.
Maybe someone in your world,
Someone you know or could be something bigger like a great being or an avatar like a Jesus or Moses,
Buddha,
A goddess or Mother Teresa.
Or maybe it could also be a relative or friend that has passed and you feel is supporting your journey in some way.
And imagine that they are in the room with you right now.
And imagining that they have some words that they'd like to share with you because they've been there,
They've walked the path.
They know what's ahead.
They love you.
And they'd like something that they'd like to reassure you.
Be not afraid.
All is well.
You are on your way.
Be not afraid.
All is well.
You are on your way.
And just receive that guidance and that trust and that love from them.
Be not afraid.
And then thanking them for their guidance and their support.
And letting them go.
And coming back into your body,
Coming back to that groundedness that we started with.
Feeling your own physical support beneath you.
And whenever you feel complete,
You can go ahead and open your eyes and come back into your room.
Including any movements that might want to find their way.
And in this time,
It's almost like the world is going through a bit of a death and a rebirth.
Or it has the potential to go through a death and rebirth where things were shifting or have to shift.
And we'll see what is reborn.
And I think we all,
By doing our practice,
By being on our journeys,
Are giving that a chance to be the best it could.
For us to continue to do this work and to shine our lights into this world is all that we can do,
Especially during this time.
And so I thank you all so much.
Namaste.

My husband at 65 has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body diese. Took a long time for the diagnosis. 1 year to see a specialist to diagnose at Toronto Memory clinic. 4 years prior with mild symptoms. We are now he in Marathon Florida Keys for a final rest here. Visited the sand bar 3 times on a inflatable dingy. Great photo of him sitting on the sand as the tide went out. (He doesn’t line to get wet) What you said about Moses really struck me this am. Thank you 🙏

Thank you for a wonderful meditation that allowed me to connect with my inner self and visualize my journey, where I started and where I am. It brought tears to my eyes as I found myself visualizing one of my mentors in the room with me and realizing that I have never been alone throughout this journey. Not only have I been blessed with love and support from family and friends, but He has always been with me and will always be there to guide me. 🙏

This was great :). I really like Lou's most recent meditations, and how they pull together many different spiritual, religious, environmental/natural, psychological, and cultural references into something cohesive and calming. I opened my eyes after this one, with more clarity about a situation I'm facing. The line about the mind being a prison reminded me of the movie "Inception" and also of Milton ("The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven). Thanks Lou!
