Hi,

This is Brooks and it's good to be here with you.

Today we're going to take a look at feeling connected.

What it means to feel connected in our lives.

My experience is feeling connected with ourselves or with another person or with life itself is right up there.

That's one of the best feelings there is.

Everything's okay when we feel connected.

Because it's one of our essential needs.

And when we feel disconnected we suffer.

There's a lot of pain with disconnection,

With a lack of connection.

So it's worth taking a look at connection in our lives.

One of the reasons we get disconnected is because we get overwhelmed.

We get exhausted,

We get tired.

We lose clarity and we often lose connection with ourselves during that time.

And we've been trained through marketing,

Through advertising that when we feel out of sorts to get something,

Something outside of ourselves,

A product,

A service.

Advertising understands that in marketing.

Their message is basically you're not okay and you need this.

Basically the idea is that you're going to feel okay again.

You're going to feel reconnected.

And so we're trained to go out and find something and bring it in and then we're going to be okay again.

But the experience shows you get something,

You bring it in and then it's,

The excitement is short lived and you're back to how you were feeling before.

And we can end up with a house and a life full of stuff to try to feel better and it's not working.

And since connection is one of the best feelings in the world,

How do we feel connected again?

How do we bring that feeling into our lives?

How do we bring it back?

I think one of the simplest ways to do that is to turn your attention away from all the voices out there telling what you need,

What you should do,

What you have to do,

How you have to be,

What you got to get and come back to yourself and ask yourself,

What do I need?

When I do that,

I like to put my hand on my heart and ask myself,

What do I need?

What do you need?

However the words come out.

And my experiences,

I'm doing it right now as I say this,

So my experience is my heart feels really good when I do that.

Because right away I'm feeling connected just by asking that question before I even get an answer.

I feel okay.

I feel like the world feels okay to me right now because I feel okay.

I get a deep satisfaction just by asking that question because it's an act of love and it makes me feel connected.

So when you're feeling out of sorts,

When you're feeling lonely,

Depressed,

Tired,

Frustrated,

It can help to ask that question,

What do I need?

And then you see what comes up.

Could be anything.

Oftentimes it's something very simple.

It's like,

It could be,

I need to take a nap.

I need a drink of water.

I need to eat lunch.

I need to go for a walk.

Whatever comes up.

So we ask,

What do I need?

And we get an answer.

And then we take care of ourselves.

Sometimes the simplest things are the things we miss because they're so simple.

It couldn't be that easy just getting a drink of water because our minds can get involved.

But we're simple creatures.

Our needs are real basic and simple.

And probably most of us,

I know myself at times,

I have a long list,

I can't have a long list of stuff.

I'm like,

Yeah,

These are the things I need to feel reconnected with myself.

Once I get these things,

Or once I have these experiences,

Or once I become these things,

Then I'm going to feel connected.

Then I'm going to feel okay.

But things come and go in our lives.

Things come and go.

They come and go.

We get things that wear out,

They break,

Or we don't need them anymore,

Or we give them away or we sell them.

We get them and we use them for a while and they end up sitting in the back of a closet.

We get them and we never use them.

Things are just flowing in and out of our lives.

But what's constant is us,

Is ourselves.

And that's why it's worth asking ourselves,

Or going and taking a listen to our own voice.

Because there's millions of voices out there and some of them are really persuasive,

Or persistent,

Or catchy,

You know.

And really confusing because we're trained to like,

Oh yeah,

Those voices out there,

Listen to them.

And then when we do it,

Then we get something,

Oh yeah,

This is going to do it,

And we get it.

And then it's not doing it,

And then it's like,

What's wrong?

There's something wrong with me,

You know.

Maybe I didn't get the right thing,

I got to get this other particular thing.

But all it takes is dropping that particular action and coming back to yourself.

Which again,

Right away and immediately,

Brings a feeling of connection.

And that is very soothing and satisfying and enriching and fulfilling.

And you don't even have to say,

I love you,

To yourself.

You just ask,

What do you need?

What do I need?

That's love.

That's compassion in action.

And that's connection.

And we're doing that,

A lot of other needs fall away.

I need this,

I need that,

I need this to happen,

I have to be like this,

Whatever it is,

Fill in the blank.

A lot of those fall away when we come back to the media and see,

What do I need?

So we feel,

We feel that connection with ourselves.

And when we feel connected with ourselves,

It becomes easier to feel connected with others in simpler ways too.

That's very satisfying,

To feel really basically connected with another person.

And from that comes a feeling of feeling connected with life,

Life itself.

So when we're feeling overwhelmed,

We feel disconnected from life.

Life feels like an enemy,

Like things aren't working out for me.

Like life's against me in some way or another,

I can feel like that.

That's a good description of feeling overwhelmed.

We reconnect with ourselves and we reconnect with life.

Because everything settles down.

We reconnect with that feeling of life flowing through us,

Beating our heart,

Pumping our blood,

Breathing us.

Blood moving through our veins.

And we can feel that life,

We feel connected to that life.

And we can feel life loves us because it's beating my heart and breathing me.

And there's a deep satisfaction from that.

So I encourage you to take a look at this feeling of feeling connected.

And I encourage you to ask yourself what you need.

And I wish you the best.

Take care.

Thanks brooks...we are also addicted to things..I am...and thos things stop life from flowing through us...we are conditioned that way and when things become the most important we forget how to love and that I the end, that is what life is about
