We'll begin by bringing the awareness to the breath.
Allow it to remain natural,
Flowing in and out through the nose.
Notice as it brushes through your nasal passageways,
As it touches the tip of your nose and travels into your body,
Taking up space.
Notice the moment that the breath is suspended at the top before resuming its path out of the body.
The breath is the sacred rhythm that always exists during life,
No matter what is happening externally.
At times,
We lose track of the breath.
Maybe we forget that we're breathing altogether.
But the breath never forgets you.
Begin to lengthen and deepen your inhales and your exhales,
Allowing your exhales to grow slightly longer than your inhales.
If you were to break down the entire motion of the inhale and exhale breath cycle into stop motion like a little flip book,
See if you can direct your attention to every little moment.
Every passage of time and of breath as it flows in and out of your body.
In our lives,
We spent so little time in this place with our attention turned inward,
With our curiosity directed on the self.
When we enter meditation,
We set an intention,
An intention to be with what is,
Not to judge it,
But simply to accept it,
To find peace and equanimity.
And the more that we practice meditation and be assured it is a practice,
The more we can find peace off of the meditation cushion or seat and out in our lives where there are distractions and devices and obligations.
Through the training of the attention,
Which meditation is,
We can return with more ease to this state of balance,
To this state of pure consciousness,
Allowing our attention to fall onto the breath.
Maybe you're having thoughts,
Maybe this is the first time you've noticed that you're having thoughts.
Take note and return your focus to the breath.
When we become the observer of our thoughts,
We are no longer an unwilling participant in the drama of the mind.
We begin to take control.
When we do that,
We can choose positive,
Productive thoughts that create positive,
Productive emotions and behaviors.
That is when we see the power of meditation begin to change our lives through this simple practice of observing the breath and of observing the patterns of the mind.
Breathing,
Sinking deeper into who we really are,
Taking responsibility for our lives.
Remain with your attention on the breath for as long as you wish.
When you are ready,
Softly open the eyes and observe this feeling,
Observe the chains that you've made within your mental state,
Within your physical body in just a few minutes.
