Now I invite you think for a moment of something you'd like to do When you do it you think I wish I could do this more often and If you could notice how that is for you to do this thing that you like and Then to wonder What is it about this that you like Just Be curious What is it about this that I like to do Just sit with that for a moment And now think about a problem Something that has been bugging you recently Something major or something minor it doesn't matter what it is Just something that has been troublesome to you that you would like to do something about Then once you have identified that Ask yourself a question How come this is a problem?
What is it about that is problematic to me and Just have that question In your mind Which can lead on naturally to responding to the next question What is different What's missing here What is it that if you had access to it if you could connect with it then you would be okay What is it that is missing here that would be useful for you Now just sit with that for a moment And then whenever you are ready and whenever seems okay for you Start to connect with the experience that you like doing You might remember a time recently when you were actually absorbed in that Or maybe you look forward to anticipate something in the future that is a pleasure for you As you are recalling remembering or imagining this experience Allow yourself to begin to focus on some part of the experience Maybe the sound Maybe the feeling Maybe something you see The colors Somehow something in the experience you can focus on The focus can vary It doesn't need to be consistent Just allow your focus to be anywhere it is And Then as a natural consequence of focusing on the experience you like can allow yourself to become more absorbed and as that absorption Can increase naturally and effortlessly Certain physiological changes can happen Without you needing to make an effort or even be aware of The way your eyelids blink different perhaps closing it really doesn't matter and it's not important for you to notice that your breathing is changing a little slower a little deeper Maybe the muscles of your face has smoothed out Might be a lot of stillness in your body You might notice your temperature of your face feels warmer or cooler Or some changes in your hands Doesn't really matter all of those changes can happen And if you can now as you are experiencing Your experience of doing what you like to do Just start to look within that experience For the way that you can have that resource that was missing in the problem And When you have identified what was missing and when you know what is missing So now you can look for what is missing in the experience of doing what you like to do and And as you look for that and find that My invitation is to simply let yourself be in the experience Let it be something that settles in your body That can soak up That can marinate yourself in that you can learn Become even that more familiar with it than you already are Then as you're experiencing this and allowing yourself the pleasure or Experiencing the presence of what was missing in the problem.
I Can say and it might sound crazy,
But I can say that the problem you are having is The same as that experience that you enjoy They are identical and That might seem obvious to you Now or that might seem crazy not at all obvious So I can ask you What is it about doing what you like?
What is it about that experience that could be relevant for you to deal with the experience that is problematic for you Wonder what that might be Something in what you like to do Something about the way you are that can be helpful in resolving that problem and I can also remind you When you first began to do what you like to do,
It might have been difficult It might have seemed impossible It might have seemed painful It might have seemed terrifying But somehow as you learn to be in that experience that you like All those fears and doubts somehow dispersed Somehow you let them go and Now it is not a problem But you actually like it so in the same way You enjoy what you enjoy doing In exactly the same way you can learn what you need to learn and getting past this problem and moving towards that resolution and You don't need to solve it now and have to happen immediately it can but maybe over the next while Something can just click in place something can happen It might just happen all by itself So there's no hurry or pressure Just let it happen and Then if you would just allow yourself to sit with this experience Let it settle into your experience That connection can take a little while to set So be patient with yourself Give yourself a moment to let that settle and then When you are satisfied with that experience You will take your own time To allow your experience to be more ordinary and to come back to the room you are in now Come back to listening to me Come back to being aware of your body and its surroundings and Then if you would Take a moment To ask yourself What's different now than when we started?
What is that and take a moment to appreciate that because learning is possible There's something there I can invite you to play with Play within your practice and in your life My invitation is to play not to struggle or sweat or make a huge effort Try it on See what can happen for you That's my invitation for you You
