It's natural that our subconscious has picked up thought patterns or behaviours that we don't want and that aren't helpful. Some of these can even be destructive. In this short meditation, we're going to dig into one thing that's not working for us, so we can weed it out and move on. Through a gentle inquiry, you'll trace your upset back to its root found in the fear hiding underneath. When you see fear for what it is, you can stare it straight in the face and disarm it. This is about uprooting the weeds of patterned thinking, one honest question at a time. Come back to this practice daily and trust in your own inner guidance.

Welcome to today's short meditation on uprooting the weeds.

In this practice we're going to dig into one thing that's not working for us so we can weed it out and move on.

It's natural that our subconscious has picked up thought patterns or behaviors that we don't want and that aren't helpful.

Worse,

Some of these can be destructive.

But today we're going to change one of them and then start fresh.

So let's begin.

Start by releasing any tension in your body as you allow yourself to relax and close your eyes.

Try to let go of whatever's come before this moment and anything that's coming after as you gently ease into being here and now.

Let's take one deep breath in,

Inhale,

And exhale.

I'd like you to think back to the last thing you can remember that upset you.

Were you being self-critical,

Saying something like,

Why do I keep doing this thing wrong?

Or were you comparing yourself to someone else,

Thinking,

Why does everything work out for so-and-so but not for me?

Were you being critical of someone else?

Why do they do it that way and not the way I want them to?

These types of thoughts and patterns are just defensive mechanisms because if we blame others or judge them,

We don't have to look at ourselves.

By blaming someone else,

Sometimes anyone or change.

And underneath,

It's the fear of change that drives these types of thoughts and behaviors.

So it's the fear we need to address if we want to uproot the weeds of our patterned thinking.

So think back to your moment of being upset.

But this time,

Ask yourself this question,

What is it that I'm really afraid of?

See if you can find the fear hiding behind your discontent.

What's the fear that's hiding underneath your discomfort?

Try to ask yourself these questions without judgment,

But with an attitude of curiosity,

And see if you can come up with honest answers.

Are you afraid of not being enough?

Are you afraid that if you accept who you are right now,

Maybe you'll never be able to do it again?

Are you afraid of being wrong?

Are you afraid you're wasting time?

Are you afraid you'll never catch up to where someone else is?

When you can detach from your anger or frustration or concerns,

You reclaim your power to choose to do things differently.

When you see fear for what it is,

You can stare it straight in the face and disarm it.

It loses its power when it's exposed.

So anytime you notice you're getting upset,

See if you can stop and ask yourself the question,

What is it I'm really afraid of?

See if you can find the fear hiding underneath the blame,

Judgment,

Or self-criticism.

See it for what it is and then release it.

It only has a grip on you if you let it.

But once it's out in the open,

It's there for you to let it go.

Let's take one last deep breath in,

Inhale,

And exhale.

So as we come to the end of this meditation,

I invite you to come back to this concept of uprooting the weeds every day or all through the day and notice what effect this practice has on your life.

Thank you so much for taking the time to be here today.

I'm Ilia Grace and until next time,

Trust in your practice and in your own inner guidance and allow the universe to work its magic.

It’s all FEAR; it’s always been FEAR. I can recognize it in all it’s forms if I put this practice to work. Thank you!
