Mindfulness and Joy go hand in hand. As we increase our capacity to become present with mindfulness practice, we begin to become more available to cultivate positive emotions such as joy, kindness, compassion, and equanimity. Please join me in this practice of cultivating Joy, exploring the states of being of Joy, and how to bring that into our day-to-day life experiences. Hello everyone,

This is Hiroki Ishiharabai and today we will be practicing mindfulness and joy.

So whenever you're ready,

Inviting in presence in your body,

Becoming fully present,

Aware,

And allow everything in,

Your worries,

Your concerns,

Your thoughts,

Emotions,

Allowing everything to be as it is,

And noticing with curiosity and maybe even a sense of compassion,

Meaning whatever is with compassion or kindness,

Dullness is present,

Inviting alertness and fun,

Joy,

Alightness,

Becoming fully present in the moment,

Inviting everything in,

Gathering your inner resources,

Inviting everything in,

And becoming present with it.

Mindfulness is the practice of cultivating hope and curiosity and non-judgment in the present moment with your experiences,

Maybe with a willingness to be with whatever is,

Whatever is present,

Simply being with,

And if you can practice that right now,

With whatever is in your circumstance,

In my circumstance,

Being with the sounds,

Being with the space,

Being with the breath as it is,

Being with the body as it is,

Being with the pain as it is,

With kindness,

Noticing everything,

Maybe readjusting your posture,

Meeting it with half alertness,

Half relaxation,

Half comfort,

We can stabilize our awareness this way.

And now moving on to our joy practice,

What brings you joy?

When do you notice joy arising?

Who do you find joy with?

What places do you find joy with?

Opening up to joy when I feel safe,

When I am playing an instrument,

When I'm singing my favorite song,

When somebody gets to know me in an authentic way,

Whenever I'm connected with myself,

With my true self,

Authentically,

When I speak my truth,

When I am swimming,

When I'm arriving in my body,

When I'm bicycling freely without any agendas,

When I'm meditating with good company,

With good friends,

When I connect with somebody authentically,

When I listen to interesting ideas,

When I remember love,

Venturing into new ideas,

When do you feel connected?

When do you feel joy?

What brings you joy?

Puppies,

Sun,

Sunshine,

Sunflowers,

Grass,

What brings you joy?

Coffee,

Tea,

Flowers,

Soap,

What brings you joy?

And noticing our state of being as we contemplate on joy,

What brings us joy?

When do we feel joy?

Notice our body,

Our hearts opening,

Notice how the body is in our comfort,

Relaxation,

Maybe even our heartbeat slows down a little,

These beautiful moments,

And we can recreate this state of being even if we're apart from joy,

In our circumstance,

We can be one with joy in our hearts,

Remembering this state of being throughout the day,

Inviting it in back,

When we notice our mind wandering,

Sadness or boredom,

We can invite this joy into the present moment.
