Henrik designs custom-made meditations for individuals both online and in-person. In 2024, he held this role at the Swedish Course Center Ängsbacka, and this recording is from one of his sessions. This particular meditation is crafted to help you root and ground yourself by focusing on and appreciating the positive aspects of your life—such as your abilities, physical health, relationships, and more. Research shows that grounding practices, including meditations like this one, have been linked to a reduction in stress, improved mood, and enhanced overall well-being. E.g. grounding has been shown to stabilize the body's circadian rhythms, reduce cortisol levels, and decrease inflammation (Chevalier et al., 2012). Moreover, focusing on gratitude during meditation can lead to increased happiness and lower depression levels (Emmons & Stern, 2013). By combining these elements, this meditation promotes emotional balance and resilience, making it a powerful tool for personal well-being.

Let's take a few deep breaths with your belly.

Notice what it feels like to be you right now.

Do you feel anything in your chest,

In your belly,

Somewhere else?

Does this have a shape,

A form,

A surface,

A color?

And what is it like for you to have this feeling in you?

What is this unique experience of being you right now?

Visualize yourself as an old,

Thick,

Stable oak tree.

Feel your thick tree trunk,

Really stable.

Feel the branches and leaves on the top.

Feel the roots down through your feet.

One root is your friends.

Feel that root supporting you,

Grounding you.

Visualize the face of one friend that you value.

Feel into what you appreciate the most about this friend.

Feel how this friend is making you feel in your body right now.

One root is your intellectual ability,

Helping you through life,

Making you stable,

Increasing your capacity.

Feel that root growing down.

One root is your relationship to material things,

No matter if it's minimalistic or more things that you actually value.

Feel that root.

One root is your amazing personality.

That has been with you through your life.

Feel that root grounding you.

One root is your capabilities.

Visualize them growing.

Notice what capabilities have come up to you.

One root is your personal qualities that you value the most.

Feel that root growing and notice what qualities you value.

One root is your knowledge.

Notice what you value the most about your knowledge and feel that root growing as you visualize it.

One root is all your experiences.

Visualize the experience you value the most and visualize how that is growing as a root and grounding you.

One root is all the teachers you've had through your life.

May it be the person that challenged you that you didn't like,

But in the end they taught you something.

Or may it be someone just filled with love or an admiration.

Or may it be an actual school teacher.

Visualize those teachers and visualize a root grounding you with all these teachers.

One root is the hardships that have brought nessence to your life and made you into the person you are today.

Feel how that can be grounding to you and visualize that root.

Visualize other people that have meant a lot to you in your life and feel a root of that growing,

Grounding you.

Now feel all these roots at the same time.

Feel how stable you are,

Your tree trunk with all these roots.

Feel the branches and leaves,

How they're blowing in the wind and you're still stable.

Even through a storm you still have these massive roots,

This tree trunk,

And you're still stable through the storm.

Notice if this stability,

This resilience,

Has a place somewhere in your body,

This rootedness.

Can you feel it in a specific point?

Does it have a shape?

A color?

Visualize how it's radiating,

Filling your whole body with this color.

Visualize how your rootedness is making your whole body glow,

How you light up the world around you and how it reflects back on you.

And feel what it's like to be you right now.

Just follow your breath.

You're welcome to continue following your breath,

Even though the meditation has come to an end.
