Leaning in, I find hurt, anger, rage, desire. Leaning back, I find rest, renewal, space and time. Cultivating patience. Knowing truth. Accepting how things are. Right action becomes clear. Can we make use of our internal space to help calm the alarm system and bring clarity to our actions? Breathing, grounding, finding our place in the body. Somehow, given time, a response emerges. Can we learn to trust this process?

Taking a moment then to land,

To arrive.

Feel the body connect with what we're sitting on.

Body connect with the ground.

And in some sense the energy that's often caught in the head space dropping down into the body space.

Energy of the head space dropping deeper into the body space.

And maybe as well there can be an awareness of breath.

And these two practices,

The grounding of the energy,

The awareness of breath already in some way turning down the volume on the alarm system,

The body's alarm system.

Dropping down the volume perhaps.

A gathering of the attention more inside.

And sometimes it seems like there's a lot of noise outside or upstairs in the head,

In the mind,

In the thinking.

Today it seems like the sea is very loud to me.

There's also some activity around us that makes it feel like I'm in a noisy environment.

And so this going in and down quietens somewhat the being,

Allows the noise itself to simply be noise.

That we can somehow sit still and be in,

Receive if you like.

It's quite noisy today.

Because sometimes it feels like conditions are not perfect.

They're not perfect for meditation or for life even.

And we could probably provide a long list of things as to why conditions are not perfect.

And maybe they're not.

And yet how can we be with them?

How can we respond?

And so knowing that some kind of response is possible,

Maybe necessary.

How can we prepare the being to respond,

To respond well,

To respond skilfully,

To take action in a way that will be helpful,

Useful.

And one thing that seems certain is that when we respond from a agitated state,

It's likely to add to the drama,

To the poor conditions.

It might even be unhelpful,

Unskilful.

And yet some response is required.

Some action is required.

So in this moment,

Instead of maybe leaning into the future,

Into the action,

Into the next thing,

Is it possible to lean back a little more,

To take some time,

Some space and time.

To allow the reactivity in the being to settle,

The alarm systems to quieten even more.

To drop the attention still deeper.

And it could be that some kind of patience is required.

The kind of patience that is not wishing it to be any different.

Not wishing that that thing didn't happen or this situation isn't as it is because it is.

In a way,

Getting really in touch with the truth of it.

Relaxing if possible into the truth of it or relaxing a bit more into the truth of it so that we come to a full acceptance of how it is.

And maybe this means being with the emotion of that.

Maybe some difficult feelings with that.

Difficult feelings often need a bit more space and time than we imagine.

And what's occurring to me is that perhaps the more accepting we can be of those difficult feelings,

Of that difficult situation,

Difficult conditions,

The more accepting we are,

The more skilful our action can be.

The more skilful our response,

The more effective our response when it comes.
