This meditation looks deeply into our unconscious fears – aging, dying or letting go what we love. We accept and embrace our fears tenderly with mindfulness, to live a more peaceful, focussed and happy life. For example, instead of being paralyzed by the fear of global warming, we can accept the impermanence of our species to have peace to act in a positive way. Based on the Upajjhatthana Sutta, "The Five Remembrances", in the form of Thich Nhat Hanh in "The Bloming of the Lotus".

Transcript

In this guided meditation phases of silence and spoken sentences alternate.

The sentences are condensed into two key pictures,

Which can serve as additional anchors in the following silence phase when breathing in and out.

Between the phases you will hear a half or full chime of the bell to facilitate the transition.

Meditating on looking deeply helps us to view unconscious fears lovingly with mindfulness,

To become happier and more peaceful.

In the beginning sit in a comfortable posture,

Close your eyes,

And pay attention to your breath to arrive in the here and now.

Breathing in,

I know I'm breathing in.

Breathing out,

I know I'm breathing out.

In,

Out.

Breathing in,

I know I'm breathing out.

Breathing in,

I know I'm getting older.

Breathing out,

I know I can't escape aging.

Aging,

No escape.

Breathing in,

I know I will experience suffering in the form of illness,

Conflict,

Sorrow,

Pain.

Breathing out,

I know I can't escape suffering.

Suffering,

No escape.

Breathing in,

I know I have to die.

Breathing out,

I know I cannot escape death.

I can't escape death.

Breathing in,

I know I have to die.

Breathing out,

I know I cannot escape death.

Dying,

No escape.

Breathing in,

I know I cannot escape death.

Breathing out,

I know I cannot escape death.

Breathing in,

I know that human race and our civilization will die out.

Breathing out,

I know our civilization cannot escape extinction.

Dying of civilization,

No escape.

Breathing out,

I know I cannot escape death.

Breathing in,

I know that everything and everyone I love will change and someday I will have to abandon them.

Breathing out,

I know I cannot escape having to abandon everything and everyone I love.

Abandon what I love,

No escape.

Breathing in,

I know that my actions are my only belongings.

Breathing out,

I know that I cannot escape the consequences of my actions.

Actions through belongings,

No escape from the consequences.

Breathing in,

I am determined to live my days in mindfulness.

Breathing out,

I see the joy and the benefit of a mindful life.

Live mindfully,

See joy.

Breathing in,

I promise to offer myself,

My loved ones and the world around me joy every day.

Breathing out,

I promise to ease the suffering in me,

My loved ones and the world around me.

Offering joy,

Easing suffering.

Breathing out,

I promise to offer myself,

My loved ones and the world around me joy every day.
