This meditation is simple and pleasant. It can give people who have not been meditating for a long time a taste of the joy that can arise from meditation. Those who have been meditating for a long time can use it to nourish their body and mind and progress along the path of meditation. Thich Nhat Hanh's meditations often alternate between spoken sentences and silent phases. The sentences are condensed into two key images, which can serve as additional anchors in the subsequent silence phase while breathing in and out. At the end of the silence phase there is a "half" tone as transition, which is also called awakening the meditation bell. The text is based on a public talk "The River of Body and Mind" from Thich Nhat Hanh, July 16, 2011.

Transcript

In this guided meditation phases of silence and spoken sentences alternate.

The sentences are condensed into two key pictures,

Which can serve as additional anchors in the following silence phase when breathing in and out.

Between the phases you will hear a half or full chime of the bell to facilitate the transition.

In the beginning sit in a comfortable posture,

Close your eyes and pay attention to your breath to arrive in the here and now.

I appreciate the restrained prompts and the long spaces of silence. For me this has been a good way to ease into a longer unguided meditation. Thank you so much!

I found this to be WONDERFUL! Short but clear guidance, and enough time time in silence to really let the words resonate. I'd love to hear you do more of these, possibly longer in the future. Thank you
