The heart chakra.

This is where we connect to love.

Not just romantic love,

But compassion,

Forgiveness,

And our capability to give and receive care.

A lot of times we're either closed off,

Protecting our hearts because we've been hurt,

Or we're over-giving,

Pouring from an empty cup,

Loving everyone else,

But forgetting to love ourselves.

This practice is about finding that balance,

Opening the heart while honoring your own needs,

Loving without losing yourself.

The heart chakra is located along the spine,

At the center of the chest,

Right at the heart space.

This is where we connect to love,

Compassion,

Forgiveness,

And our capacity for connection,

Both with ourselves and with others.

The color associated with the heart chakra is green,

Healing,

Nurturing,

Expansive green.

And the element is air.

This chakra is about expansion and breath.

Air moves freely,

Air gives life,

Air connects us all.

When the heart chakra is balanced,

We feel open,

Compassionate,

And capable of both giving and receiving love.

This is the energy center that holds our ability to connect,

To feel empathy,

To forgive ourselves,

And others,

To love without conditions.

When the heart chakra is balanced,

We can love fully without losing ourselves.

We can hold boundaries while staying open.

We can feel our own pain and still have compassion for others.

We can give from overflow,

Not from depletion.

When it's out of balance,

We might feel closed off,

Unable to trust,

Guarded,

Protective.

Or we might swing the other way,

Becoming codependent,

Overgiving,

Unable to say no,

Losing ourselves in taking care of everyone else.

Sometimes this shows up physically,

Chest tightness,

Shallow breathing,

Heart palpitations,

Or issues with the upper back and shoulders.

So some themes of the heart chakra to note,

Love and self-love,

Compassion and empathy,

Forgiveness and letting go,

Connection and relationships,

Grief and healing,

Giving and receiving,

Opening while maintaining boundaries.

The mantra or bija seed sound for the heart chakra is yam,

Y-a-m,

Pronounced yam.

We'll be working with this sound to activate and balance this energy center.

I encourage you to say it out loud,

Allow the vibration to activate this chakra energy center,

Although you have the option to say it silently in your mind.

This practice is just about opening the heart,

Not just to others,

But to yourself.

Learning to hold both love and boundaries in the same place.

Not just that,

But connecting with your heart more,

Allowing it to speak without your head getting in the way.

So when you're ready,

Start to get situated in a comfortable position,

Sitting upright with the chest fully open,

Or even laying down if that feels better for you.

And start to gently close the eyes when you're ready.

Start to bring awareness to the breath.

Just notice the natural rhythm of your breathing,

The expansion and contraction of the chest with each breath.

Notice how the body feels in this moment,

Especially the chest,

The heart space,

The center of your being.

Now let's start to deepen the breath,

Taking a full inhale through the nose and an open mouth sigh out.

Again,

Inhale through the nose.

Let an exhale go with any sound that needs to come out.

One more inhale through the nose.

And exhale,

Release.

Now we're going to work with a breathing pattern that opens and expands the heart space.

We'll breathe in through the nose for a count of four,

Pause gently at the top for one,

And exhale through the mouth for a count of six.

This breath with the longer exhale helps soften the heart,

Release tension,

And create space for love and compassion.

So let's get started with an inhale through the nose for one,

Two,

Three,

Four,

Gentle pause at the top,

And exhale through the mouth for six,

Five,

Four,

Three,

Two,

One.

Let's do that again.

Inhale for one,

Two,

Three,

Four,

Gentle pause,

Exhale,

Six,

Five,

Four,

Three,

Two,

One.

And again,

Inhaling for one,

Two,

Three,

Four,

Hold,

Exhale for six,

Five,

Four,

Three,

Two,

One.

Go ahead and continue on this pattern for your own for a few more rounds.

With each inhale,

Breathing into the heart space,

Healing,

Nurturing,

Unconditional love,

Breathing out anything heavy or closed,

Breathing in,

Gathering the breath at the center of the chest,

The heart chakra,

Like breathing in fresh air,

Cleansing,

Opening,

Expanding,

Exhaling,

Releasing anything heavy,

Stuck,

Stagnant.

And I'll leave you for a few more rounds in silence.

Now let the breath return to its natural pace,

No more counting,

No controlling,

Just breathing naturally,

Feeling the energy alive in the heart space.

As you continue to rest here,

Connected to the heart chakra,

I invite you to gently explore some questions.

There's no need to force answers.

Just let the questions float through the awareness and see what arises.

These are meant to be almost immediate answers without the overthinking.

So ask the mind to gently step aside and let the heart speak.

Where in your life do you feel most open,

Most connected to love?

What areas in your life is your heart closed off to?

Where have you built walls to protect yourself?

Who or what do you need to forgive,

Including yourself?

When do you give love to others but forget to give love to yourself?

What did you learn about love and worthiness as a child?

Is there an old belief about being lovable or deserving that's ready to be released?

Just notice what comes up,

No judgment,

Just curiosity.

Now imagine a warm,

Green,

Glowing light in the center of your chest,

Right at the heart space.

If visualization is not your strength,

You can always say in your mind,

I command that a warm,

Green light glows at the center of my chest.

This could also just be a feeling,

A sensing,

Or a knowing.

And as you breathe,

Imagine this light expanding with each inhale.

This is your heart light,

Your capacity for love,

For compassion,

For connection.

With each inhale,

Make this green light grow brighter,

Warmer,

More expansive.

With each exhale,

Release any walls,

Any armor,

Any protection you've been carrying around your heart.

With each inhale,

Draw the breath into the heart space,

Into the center of the chest.

With each exhale,

Let go of old hurts,

Past betrayals,

Grief you've been holding,

Resentment towards others or yourself.

Feel this light melting away the walls you've built,

Not leaving you unprotected,

But opening you up to receive love,

To give love,

To be love.

The heart heals,

It doesn't forget,

But it releases what it no longer needs to carry.

Then with each inhale,

Allow the green light to grow stronger,

More radiant,

More open.

With each exhale,

Anything that keeps you closed is softly released.

Inhale,

Opening your heart.

Exhale,

Releasing protection that no longer serves.

You are allowed to love.

You are allowed to be loved.

You are allowed to open your heart and still be safe.

If any emotions start to arise,

Allow them to move through.

If there's grief for love lost,

Let it come.

If there's warmth and gratitude,

Let it fill you.

If there's tenderness towards yourself,

Let it be there.

The heart chakra holds so much,

Our capacity for connection,

Our wounds,

Our healing,

Our ability to love.

So give yourself permission to feel whatever needs to be felt.

Let the heart soften and expand.

Then if you like,

You can place the hands on the heart,

The center of the chest,

Directing energy and attention to this area.

Or you can simply rest the hands wherever it feels comfortable and use the mind's eye to focus on the heart space.

Just using these few moments to feel the connection.

Then again,

Visualizing that green light from earlier.

Visualizing the green light forming into a ball of spinning energy at the center of the chest.

Like a wheel of light,

Spinning gently,

Green,

Glowing soft and warm.

Or again,

You can command that a green ball of energy spins at the center of the chest.

This is your heart chakra.

Your center of love,

Compassion,

And connection.

With each breath,

Send unconditional loving energy to the space.

Energy that says you are loved.

You are worthy of love.

You are love itself.

If you are using your hands,

Imagine calling in life force energy through the palms of the hands.

Directing only unconditional love to the heart chakra.

Or in your mind,

Directing the energy there as well.

Sending energy that opens the heart.

Energy that heals old wounds.

Energy that says it's safe to love.

Safe to be vulnerable.

Safe to connect.

As you breathe,

Continue to imagine this green ball of energy.

And it's becoming brighter,

Softer,

More expansive.

Now if it feels comfortable,

Begin to silently,

In the mind,

Or chant out loud the sacred bija seed mantra for the heart chakra.

Yum.

Taking a deep breath in through the nose.

And open mouth.

Yum.

Yum.

Yum.

Yum.

Feeling the vibration of the sound in the chest,

At the heart.

Continuing to chant on your own,

Yum.

Yum.

And start to release the mantra,

Just resting in the energy you've created for a few moments.

As you continue to breathe,

Repeat these words silently or loud.

I am worthy of love.

I forgive myself and others.

I give and receive with an open heart.

I am safe to love and be loved.

And taking three more deep breaths,

Sealing this energy into the heart chakra.

Inhaling deeply,

Feeling the green energy glowing softly.

Exhaling,

Anchoring this feeling of openness and compassion.

Inhaling,

Drawing in love,

Healing energy,

Connection.

Exhale,

Letting the body settle into this open hearted state.

One more inhale,

Filling up with love,

Unconditional love.

Exhale,

Releasing fully.

Then slowly begin bringing gentle movement back into the body.

Maybe stretching the arms wide,

Opening the chest.

Keeping that sense of heart openness,

Even as you return to full awareness.

Maybe roll the shoulders back,

Place the hands back on the heart for a moment,

Feeling the warmth there.

When you're ready,

Taking one more deep inhale through the nose,

A long open mouth sigh out.

Gently in your own time,

Blink the eyes open.

Taking a moment to notice how you feel,

What shifted,

What feels different in the body.

Perhaps some questions to journal or just think about out loud.

What did you discover about your relationship with love and connection?

Who or what are you ready to forgive this week?

What would change in your life if you truly believed you were worthy of love?

Thank you for opening your heart,

For choosing love,

For allowing yourself to be seen.

Remember,

The heart chakra is always available for you to tap into.

You can return to this practice at any time you need to reconnect with compassion,

Love,

And forgiveness.
