In this 24-minute meditation session,

We will be preparing ourselves to have a lucid dream tonight.

We will be conditioning our mind such that when we are in the dream state,

We will become aware that we are dreaming,

And this will allow us to continue our lucid dreaming practices.

Therefore this meditation is ideal to complete just before going to sleep.

We begin by acknowledging our positive motivation in seeking this goal,

Such that it can help us and those around us.

This is also an excellent time to practice gratitude,

And we can do this by acknowledging two or three elements from our day that we are grateful for,

Having acknowledged our motivation and practicing some gratitude.

We can now begin to settle our body,

Speech and mind into their natural state,

Their natural state being an unconfigured,

Relaxed,

Calm and peaceful state.

Starting with the body,

We release any tension we might be feeling,

Allowing the body to settle.

Next,

We move our attention to our speech,

Our internal dialogue,

The voice in our mind,

And we allow that voice to gradually fall silent,

Letting go of any commentary we might have about how this practice is going or what we should be doing,

Letting our internal voice settle back into silence.

And next we turn our attention to the mind,

Acknowledging what other events might be taking place in the mind,

Feelings,

Memories,

Images,

Concepts of past or future,

And we gradually diffuse from that mental proliferation,

Allowing it to recede into the background of our mind and dissolve back into the space from which it arose.

What's left over after this mental activity recedes is the space of the mind.

It's not a physical space,

It's not a space with borders or boundaries,

It's not a space inside our brain or our skull,

It's the space of awareness,

The domain or area into which mental events arise.

It's the same space in which our dreams can be found,

The space in which we observe not only appearances in waking life,

But appearances in the dreamscape.

Using this space as the object of our meditation is excellent preparation for lucid dreaming.

If you're having difficulty locating this space as an object of meditation,

You can generate a mental image,

Something neutral.

Hold that image in the space of your mind and then let it dissolve while holding your attention in the same space.

Letting the image dissolve back into the space of the mind while holding your attention on that space can help you reorientate your attention to the space of your mind,

Continuing to focus your attention on the space of your mind and letting go of any cognitive fusion diffusing from any mental events that arise.

And simply observing those mental events arise in the space of your mind and then dissolve back into it without becoming fixated or fused with them.

And while continuing to meditate on the space of the mind,

We're going to communicate with our subconscious,

Conditioning it and laying the seeds for us to become aware in the dream state.

Tonight I will wake up in my dreams.

Tonight I will wake up in my dreams.

Tonight I will wake up in my dreams.

I want to become lucid in my dreams so that I can continue my practice.

I have a strong desire and wish to wake up in my dreams so that I can continue my practice.

My strongest wish and resolve is to wake up in my dreams so that I can continue my practice.

Soon I'm going to fall asleep and I will be dreaming and I'm going to recognize that I am dreaming.

In the next few hours I'm going to be asleep and dreaming and I'm going to realize that I am dreaming.

I will notice one of my dream signs or something will happen in my dream that will alert me to the fact that I am asleep and I will know that I am dreaming.

Once I become lucid in my dream,

I will remember my resolve to practice.

I will stabilize my lucidity and explore the dream world.

Soon I will be dreaming and I will recognize that I am dreaming.

I will question the nature of my reality.

Could this be a dream?

I will question the nature of my reality.

Could this be a dream?

Yes,

This is a dream.

Yes,

I am in a dream.

I will wake up to the realization that all phenomena are dreamlike.

I will be aware in my surroundings,

Observant for dream signs.

I will wake up.

I will wake up in my dreams.

I will pause,

Look around and realize that the appearances I see are empty of inherent nature and are simply manifestations of my own mind.

I will realize that the dreamscape is made from the mind,

Arising from the mind and is dependent on the mind.

We dedicate any merit from this session and from our lucid dreaming practice towards our own benefit and the benefit of all sentient beings.

As this meditation comes to an end,

We will take these thoughts with us into our dreams,

Holding our awareness of the space of the mind into the dreaming state and remembering our resolve.

Tonight I will have a lucid dream.

Tonight I will become lucid in the dream state.

Soon I will be dreaming and I will recognize that I am dreaming.

All phenomena are dreamlike.

Could this be a dream?

Yes,

This is a dream.

And I am awake.

I look around in my dream and I realize that the appearances I see are empty of inherent nature and are simply manifestations of my own mind.

I am aware that the dreamscape is made from the mind,

Arising from the mind,

Dependent on the mind.

Tonight I will become lucid in the dream state.

Tonight I will become lucid in my dreams.

Soon I will be dreaming and I will recognize that I am dreaming.
