Welcome to meditation.
Make yourself very comfortable for this meditation.
When you're ready,
Close your eyes.
Begin to pull your attention from the outside in.
Don't go so far in that you lose touch with your body.
But bring your attention inside the body.
Like your body is this big energy container where this meditation is happening.
For this meditation,
We're going to work with the mantra OM.
OM is the primordial sound.
It is said to be the sound body of the divine.
We use the mantra not as a tool to distract our mind,
But as an energetic elixir.
We relate to the mantra as a living force,
A living being.
For right now,
Just relax your body,
Pull your attention inward,
And start to consider the syllable OM.
You can just silently intone the mantra.
You don't have to do it in a rhythm,
You don't have to synchronize it with your breath,
You don't have to do anything right now.
You're just relaxing your body and bringing OM into your inner landscape.
Now,
Bring your attention into the middle of this inner space.
The very middle.
You're not losing touch with your body.
You're just taking this energetic experience of the inside of your body and bringing your attention into the middle of that space.
Now,
In the middle of that space,
Begin to place the mantra OM.
And you can start repeating it in a pulsating manner.
I suggest synchronizing the pulsation of the mantra with your breath.
You can do it with the in-breath and the out-breath.
But I find it very powerful to OM on the out-breath.
Rest on the in-breath.
Right now,
The mantra is still right there in the middle of you.
And you can make the length of the OM the same length as your breath.
Now,
You get to decide how loud is the mantra.
Yes,
It's silent inside of your inner space,
But it can be silent and quiet like a whisper.
It can be silent and loud like thunder.
You can also decide the tone of the OM,
The pitch of the OM.
It can be a low tone or it can be a high tone.
Right here,
While it's in the middle of you,
Play with it,
Play with the volume,
Play with the pitch,
And get it so that it is most resonant for you.
Now,
As you're toning this mantra,
Pulsating the sacred syllable OM,
You do the work of the mantra meditation where you're receiving the mantra at the same time as toning the mantra.
This is the secret to any mantra meditation.
How soft do you have to become to receive the vibration of the mantra?
Stay with it,
And if you wander off or forget what you're doing,
You just come back to the next exhalation,
The next OM.
As you relax into the vibration,
Receiving that vibration,
You may also get drowsy.
It's very intoxicating to work with the mantra in this way.
If you find yourself slipping away,
Just come back very gently,
Very lovingly.
No punishment,
No scolding.
You just smile and come back to the next OM.
Now,
Let the space that the OM is occupying be a little bit bigger.
It's not just in the very middle of you,
But it's starting to expand now.
As you continue,
The OM may change.
It may keep pulsing.
Sometimes it becomes continuous.
Sometimes the pulsating OM turns into a continuous stream.
Whatever is happening,
Just receive it.
Enjoy it as deeply as you can.
From the top of your head to the soles of your feet,
To the palms of your hands,
Your whole body,
Your whole being is filled with OM,
And your whole being is inside of the OM.
Just let that vibration permeate you.
Let the vibration touch you.
Let the vibration heal you.
Let it bless you.
So sacred.
So ancient.
So alive.
A little bit more.
One last scan through your body from the top of your head to the soles of your feet.
Is there anything left?
Anything that hasn't been enveloped with this ancient,
Sacred syllable?
When you're ready now,
You can start to deepen your breath and let your body move.
When you feel ready,
You can take a nice breath in.
Let your eyes come open once again.
Thank you for joining me for this meditation.
