This mindfulness exercise is designed to help you increase positive emotions in your life.
One of the best ways to do this is when something positive happens in your day,
To really allow yourself to sink in and experience that moment.
Learning how to soak in positive emotions really helps build your resilience for when difficult things happen in your life.
We often just brush past positive experiences.
We only usually spend a few fleeting seconds thinking about how nice it is before we move on.
But this exercise encourages you to really sit and linger on the experience and the positive emotions that are associated with it.
To begin,
Just closing your eyes and taking a deep breath in and out,
Allowing this to help you anchor yourself to the moment.
Bringing into mind when something positive happened recently in your life.
Playing this image in your mind,
Trying to recount the moment as vividly as possible.
What was happening around you?
What smells did you notice or what could you feel?
Was the sun shining on you or was there a light breeze?
Replaying the exact image of what happened again and again in your mind.
And start to notice if any physical sensations start to arise in your body.
Perhaps your heart starts to feel warm,
Like as if the sun is shining on your heart.
Perhaps your chest starts to feel warm,
Like a cup of hot cocoa.
Or perhaps you start to feel soothed and calm.
Whatever physical sensations arise within you,
Just really allowing yourself to tune into those and allow them to really sink in.
Like hot syrup sinking into a cake.
Really allowing those good feelings to sink into you and to be soaked up.
You might like to place a hand on your heart and just feel the additional warmth that this creates.
This simple yet kind act that you can show towards yourself.
And just lingering in this experience.
A feeling of positivity as it sits in your body.
The warmth and comfort that it brings.
Just taking a few moments to rest in this space.
Before gently opening your eyes again.
And returning back to your day.
