Our bodies feel gravity all day long, but just like the fish don't notice the ocean, we tend to not sense the planet's pull. Join me in this fundamental practice, where we tune into the sensation of Earth's gravity pulling us gently down, anchoring us, grounding us, and drawing us into a calm presence. This practice is perfect before bedtime, but also works in moments of stress and distraction, or as a general meditation. image: Curated Lifestyle end pan flute: flora phonic

Welcome to this meditation with gravity.

So I want to invite you to find a very comfortable position and as always I want you not to default into your standard meditation position but be mindful in how you position your body.

So make even the very beginning here a moment to come more into presence.

And for this meditation I also want you to actually do a physiological sigh at the beginning here just to calm down the nervous system.

And I'll explain what I mean with a physiological sigh.

So in a moment what I invite you to do is to take a full breath in through your nose,

So filling your lungs entirely.

And then when you've filled your lungs completely then you when you've filled your lungs completely then you take another extra little gasp of air in through your nose and then you exhale through your mouth with a sort of releasing sigh.

And this actually will calm your nervous system right down.

So one more time I'll explain.

You take a full inhalation through your nose,

Completely filling your lungs and then at the top there you take another extra little breath,

Both through your nose and then exhalation completely letting go through your mouth.

You can even make a little sound if that is comfortable.

So just do that about two or three times without rushing it.

And just notice how that feels.

The calming effect of the physiological sigh.

Already slowing down,

Calming down.

If you are normally wearing glasses I will invite you to take them off,

Allowing your face to relax even more.

And if you're sitting I will suggest that you want to have a very gentle upward intention in your spine and at the same time you can let go of all your soft tissues,

Your face,

Your ligaments,

Your tendons,

Your skin,

Even let the marrow in your bones release into the pool of gravity.

And notice how pleasant it feels when you hear this calling of the planet.

You're feeling it with your body all day long.

And now let's listen to that.

Let's fully relax.

And to relax means allowing earth's gravity to ground you.

And notice you can be perfectly upright in your posture.

While at the same time releasing your body.

And you can help this process by exhaling more intentionally with a downward stream.

So whenever you exhale,

You can take a few intentionally longer inhalations first.

And then when you exhale,

Feel the release,

Fuel the release and let go.

Exhale and let go.

You can feel the skin on your face gently go down the corners of your mouth,

The cheeks,

The muscles and skin of your face,

Your tongue relaxing down in the floor of your mouth.

Your tongue relaxing down in the floor of your mouth.

And using the breath,

You can even imagine that your exhalation goes all the way down through your body,

Through the ground,

Into the earth,

In the direction of the core of our planet.

Inhaling the air around you through the nose if possible and exhaling also through your nose all the way down to the center of the earth.

And don't make it a mental practice but feel the release,

Feel the gentle relaxation.

Surrender to the gentle persistence of gravity.

Even allow the water that is about 60% of your body to find its lowest point in all your cells.

Billions and billions of cells in your body are the cradles of fluid that at one point was part of the ocean.

And for the rest of this meditation,

Surrendering to gravity,

You can allow every exhalation to be a deeper relaxation.
