Welcome to this root chakra meditation.
In her book Eastern Body Western Mind,
Anodeya Judith defines the chakras as organisation centres that receive,
Assimilate and express life force energy.
This concept of prana or energy flow identifies seven key centres of energy stacked from the base of our spine to the top of our head.
Our base chakra,
Muladhara,
Sanskrit for root support,
Connects us to the physical world beneath us and around us.
It is situated at the base of our spine and its associated colour is red.
This meditation includes a series of affirmations designed to connect you to your roots.
Like all life,
In order to flourish,
We need to deeply root to our home base to create free flowing access to the rich,
Vast support systems beneath us.
Come into a comfortable meditation posture.
Sit upright with a strong back,
Soft front.
Take a moment to check in with your spine.
Level your pelvis,
Draw your tailbone under,
Root through your sitting bones.
Feel your weight coming down and your height reaching up through the crown of your head.
Bring awareness to your shoulders.
Roll them up and back,
Broadening through your chest and letting your shoulder blades soften onto your back.
Gently nod your head up and down,
Side to side.
Let it come to rest like a bowling ball balanced on the top of your spinal column.
Bring your hands to prayer position,
Anjali Mudra.
Separate your middle fingers away from each other without disturbing the others and slowly raise this lotus mudra above your head.
Once your arms are fully extended,
Release your hands and draw a big circle around your body until your fingers reach the floor either side of you,
Arms still extended.
Lightly tent your fingers on the floor,
Press your fingertips into the stable ground beneath you,
Rooting you to the vast fertile energy system coursing below.
Breathe.
Take a deep delicious breath through your nose like you're drinking in the smell of rain after a long time.
Sigh it out through your mouth.
Feel your body ground beneath you,
Spreading roots into the fertile soil below.
Take some more deep refreshing breaths.
Savor the oxygen that energizes every system within your body.
Visualize it coursing through your veins,
Providing your major organs,
Tissues,
Energy centers with life force,
Vitality and strength.
As you expel air through your mouth,
Sigh out the carbon dioxide that no longer serves you.
Dispel any thoughts,
Feelings,
Unhelpful energy that no longer needs to linger within.
Release your hands and bring them to rest in Dhyanamudra,
The back of your right hand resting in the palm of your left,
Creating a bowl,
Thumbs connecting.
This mudra supports a sense of grounding and stability,
A sense of calm.
Bring your awareness to the base of your spine.
Breathe deeply right down into your sacrum.
Imagine the energetic blood flow providing oxygen and nutrients to your sacroiliac joint,
Which links your pelvis to your sacrum.
Imagine a deep red ball of energy spinning at the root of your spine.
This is your root chakra,
Your Munadara.
It is deeply connected to the earth beneath you,
Strong,
Vast and stable.
With each inhale,
It nourishes your spine,
Bringing vital energy and strength to your whole body,
Your whole being.
Your root chakra grounds you,
Orients you in time and space.
It anchors your body and connects you to the earth.
The primary source of blockage for our root chakra is worry or fear.
But we can nourish our root chakra with gratitude and thankfulness.
The following affirmations can help to spread our roots and support us to feel anchored,
Grounded and strong.
You can repeat them internally or aloud or just let them resonate,
Come and go.
I am safe.
I am healthy.
I allow the earth to support me and to meet my needs.
I respect my body and trust its wisdom.
In this moment,
I am safe.
I release all thoughts of worry.
When challenges arise,
I stay anchored in hope.
I allow myself to slow down and rest.
I belong.
I am here.
I am real.
I am safe.
I am healthy.
I allow the earth to support me and to meet my needs.
I respect my body and trust its wisdom.
In this moment,
I release all thoughts of worry.
When challenges arise,
I stay anchored in hope.
I allow myself to slow down and rest.
I belong.
I am here.
I am real.
I am safe.
I am healthy.
I allow the earth to support me and to meet my needs.
I respect my body and trust its wisdom.
In this moment,
I release all thoughts of worry.
When challenges arise,
I stay anchored in hope.
I allow myself to slow down and rest.
I belong.
I am here.
I am real.
Bring awareness to your body sitting here.
Feel your connection to the ground beneath you.
Release your hands and take a stretch.
Enjoy a spinal twist on each side to release your spine.
Thank yourself for taking the time to nourish and nurture your health.
I hope you have a lovely rest of your day.
Namaste.
