Welcome to day three of our 22 days of guided meditation,
Navigating recovery and overcoming adversity.
Today we will begin by looking at how trusting the universe can lead us from suffering to peace.
When an individual is dealing with addiction,
They are often constantly looking to the outside world for happiness,
And true happiness is an inside job.
Addiction to search outside ourselves for happiness is the opposite of what it feels like to trust in the universe.
While dealing with addiction,
We definitely know what the opposite of trusting the universe feels like,
Because we spend so much time dealing with anxiety,
Trying to control every outcome in our lives,
And manipulating situations to make sure they happen in the exact way we think they need to happen.
Addiction stemming from this search outside ourselves for happiness is the opposite of having faith in trusting the universe.
But as we become more faithful and surrender our will over,
We experience freedom and peace,
Because the key to serenity is trusting the universe.
Now that we see that trusting the universe can lead us from suffering to peace,
We are going to explore the relationship between meditation and surrender.
When we meditate,
We are able to surrender,
Trust the universe,
And release control by moving beyond our minds continuous internal dialogue that is our ego's desire to control.
As human beings,
Our minds are usually always engaged in an unceasing internal dialogue in which the meaning and emotional associations of one thought trigger the next.
Usually this is happening without us even being consciously aware of it.
But in meditation,
We interrupt the unconscious progression of our thoughts and emotions by focusing on a new object of attention,
The mantra.
The mantras appear sound with no meaning or emotional charge to trigger associations.
The mantra therefore allows our mind to surrender from the ego's desire to control and detach from the mind's usual preoccupations and experience the spaciousness and calm within ourselves.
In other words,
The mantra will allow us to detach from controlling and suffering and experience freedom and peace.
Now let's prepare to meditate.
Make yourself comfortable and close your eyes.
Now begin to become aware of the breath,
Not focusing or concentrating.
Just simply watch the breath as it effortlessly flows in and out.
Now easily and effortlessly begin silently repeating today's mantra,
Aham Brahmasmi.
Aham Brahmasmi.
Aham Brahmasmi.
Continue to repeat this mantra,
Aham Brahmasmi.
And whenever you notice yourself distracted by thoughts,
Physical sensations,
Or a noise in the environment,
Simply return your attention to silently repeating the mantra,
Aham Brahmasmi.
Aham Brahmasmi.
Aham Brahmasmi.
Continue with your meditation.
I will watch the time,
And when it's time to end our meditation,
You will hear me ring a soft chime.
When you hear the chime,
Stop repeating the mantra and continue sitting quietly with your eyes closed.
Enjoy your meditation.
