So this is a brief grounding exercise,
A walk on the grass barefoot so it's raining lightly.
I've no shoes or socks on,
I'm walking in the wet grass.
Why?
You might be imagining.
To ground myself so immediately I connect and I can feel the earth and the grass,
The damp grass under my feet.
I feel what it's like to have feet,
To be standing on the earth,
To be present and I can bring that awareness up my legs,
Up my shins,
Up my thighs,
Up to my groin and hips,
My tummy,
Up my chest,
My ribcage,
My back,
My shoulders,
My arms,
My hands.
So in one hand I'm holding a phone,
In another hand I'm holding a microphone.
I can see them with my eyes.
I observe the colour.
I'm not thinking about what they are or naming anything,
I'm just witnessing them.
I return to feeling my upper back.
I'm observing and witnessing it.
I witness up through my neck,
My head and now I'm witnessing the drops of light rain around me and the colour of trees.
I'm not naming anything.
I'm not thinking this is lovely or this is cold or this is hot or this is anything.
It's just an image.
And now I hear.
So I can hear my own voice and I can hear birds around me and a light movement of trees.
So as much as possible I don't think about anything.
All I do is witness.
As I begin to step around the grass I can feel the grass crunch under my feet.
It folds,
It's crisp.
I can take all my focus to each sole of each foot and feel how the grass is beneath.
I can take all my focus to below my hips to observe how each leg moves and steps forward softly onto the grass.
All we're doing is witnessing.
This is just being present in a human body in the moment and experiencing all of these senses.
And initially there's no excitement in it.
It can seem boring because we're used to phones and televisions and lots of other stuff.
But as we practice this it becomes more calming,
Grounding and habitual and we become more connected to our spirit.
There's more awareness of who we are and what it is,
What it feels like to be in this place,
To be in a human body.
We're not lost in thought any longer or less and less.
So I suggest take this practice of being in the body and being present with you for the rest of the day and continue just to connect to the body,
Connect to your senses.
Slow the mind down,
Come back to being present and enjoy your day.
