Activate The Power Of The 91st Psalm For Challenging Times
Do you have a “spiritual toolbox” of prayers and practices that always work, to use in times of need? The 91st Psalm is one of the prayers in my personal spiritual toolbox, and I hope it will soon be one of yours. In this episode, I share three different ways to use this beautiful prayer, as well as the hidden sacred contract it contains. I will also show you how to “activate” this ancient prayer with a technique given to me by Mother Mary Herself!

What are we waiting for?
Let's get started.
Hello my miraculous friend.
This is Reverend Francis Faden and welcome to another episode of the Magnify Your Miracles podcast.
I'm so grateful to be spending this time with you.
Before we get into today's topic,
Let's take a few moments to get ourselves grounded and centered by taking a few deep breaths.
Breathing in the energy of expansion,
Breathing out anything that you no longer need,
Just giving yourself a moment.
And again,
If you're driving,
Keep your eyes open,
But you can still bring your awareness to your breathing.
And as you start to feel yourself becoming more present in this moment,
Just letting yourself think about what it is that you would really appreciate hearing today,
Whatever that message might be.
And knowing that that's exactly what you're going to be hearing today.
Let yourself feel as much gratitude as you can,
Feeling so grateful you got what you needed today.
So let's both take a deep breath together in gratitude and we can begin.
All right.
Well,
Hello once again,
My friend,
And I'm so grateful to be here with you.
We're going to be talking about something today that is near and dear to my heart.
We're going to be talking about 91st Psalm and I love the book of Psalms.
I love pretty much all sacred scripture.
Scripture makes me so happy.
I love to read about all the different faiths and how people of different cultures honor the divine makes me so happy as an interfaith minister,
But I have a special place in my heart for the book of Psalms because I was raised in the Catholic tradition,
Even though I'm an interfaith minister now.
They're very familiar to me and they're very comforting.
And I really love how David wrote these beautiful.
I guess I can call them prayer poems is really what they are.
And they reflect the whole gamut of human emotion and the struggle that we all go through.
But the 91st Psalm is particularly important to me and I love it.
It's one of my favorite ones.
And I first learned about the power of it.
I had known about it for a long time,
But I didn't really understand the power of it until my own mentor,
Reverend Jane Howard Feldman had done a special class on it.
And I actually think that you can purchase the CD that she has on the 91st Psalm.
And there's so many amazing stories.
I might not be getting this a hundred percent correct,
But I'm going to give you the gist of it anyway.
I believe that there was a particular platoon or battalion and war in World War I.
And every day they would read the 91st Psalm and it ended up that they had no casualties in that platoon or regiment or whatever their terminology is.
I don't know exactly.
But it speaks of the protective power of this particular Psalm.
And maybe you have heard,
I'm just going to read a little bit of it for right now,
But then I'm going to tell you that Mother Mary took me even deeper into this Psalm with a technique that I'm going to share with you to help you activate the power of the 91st Psalm,
Which is really effective and very important,
Especially for the times that we're in.
And anytime that you're going through a challenge,
It's the perfect go-to.
So I'm going to be reading from the King James Version.
And the reason I'm picking the King James Version,
Even though it might sound a bit antiquated is that this,
First of all,
It's recommended by Paramhansa Yogananda.
He recommends that we read the King James Version because he said vibrationally,
It has the highest vibration of the translations,
Probably other than reading it in the actual Hebrew.
And also this particular version,
This particular translation was translated specifically to be read aloud,
Which is why it sounds so beautiful in my opinion.
So it starts,
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.
I will save the Lord.
He is my refuge and my fortress,
My God in him while I trust.
So you've probably heard this Psalm,
I can guess.
He that dwells in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.
Now this is a prayer of protection,
But what a lot of people don't know is actually within this prayer,
It's really giving you direction,
Giving you reassurance,
And it's actually a contract.
And I'll be showing you how it's a contract in just a few moments and then showing you how to activate this contract and really make it work for you.
So one of the things that I do that I recommend,
I keep a copy of the King James Bible,
Have it here on my desk,
And I always have it open to the 91st Psalm.
I have it sitting on my desk open to the 91st Psalm because I believe that this particular Psalm has a lot of protection,
Power in it.
And also I think it's directly connected to the energy of Archangel Michael.
That's my belief.
Maybe that's not true,
But whenever I read these words,
I always feel like,
Oh,
This is Archangel Michael that is really speaking about this.
So I will again read some of this to you,
And then I'm going to tell you what I do to activate it and to really make this a powerful prayer for you.
It's a beautiful thing to read other people's prayers,
But how do you make them your own?
That's how you activate the energy in them.
So let me go back.
Now when I read this,
It sounds to me like the whole first part of this Psalm is really Archangel Michael kind of explaining things to you and telling you what the guarantee is.
Like if you are able to dwell in the secret place of the most high,
You will always be under the shadow of the almighty.
You'll always be under that mantle of protection as mother Mary likes to say,
And then goes on to say,
What will happen when you do this?
But then when you get down to the bottom,
You get down to verse number 14,
The voice changes and that's where we enter into this contractual agreement,
So to speak.
It's kind of a sacred contract.
So I'm going to read it to you one time,
Just as it's written,
And then I'm going to read it to you the way that will activate it for you.
And the other way that I acted,
Well,
I'll come back to that in a second.
I'm getting ahead of myself.
So Psalm 91,
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.
I will save the Lord.
He is my refuge and my fortress.
My God in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver,
Deliver thee from the snare of the Fowler and from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers and under his wings shalt thou trust.
His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night,
Nor for the arrow that flyeth by day,
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in the darkness,
Nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at thy side and 10,
000 at thy right hand,
But it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shall thou behold and see the reward of the wicked because thou hast made the Lord,
Which is my refuge,
Even the most high,
Thy habitation.
There shall no evil befall thee.
Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling,
For he shall give his angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways.
Thou shall bear up thee in their hands,
Lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and the adder,
The young lion and the dragon shall thou trample under feet.
And then this is where it changes in verse 14.
Because he hath set his love upon me,
Therefore will I deliver him.
I will set him on high because he hath known my name.
He shall call upon me and I will answer him.
I will be with him in trouble.
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.
You can see that the voice changes in verse number 14 and that becomes God responding and saying,
Because this person that you're speaking of has set his love upon me,
Because he's loved me,
I will deliver him.
I'll set him on high.
Why?
Because he knows my name.
Name is another word for consciousness and it's another way of saying because he knows me,
Because he's intimate with me,
Because he calls me by name.
It's very intimate to do that.
He will call upon me and I will answer him.
Again,
Intimacy.
I will be with him in trouble.
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.
Now the first thing that I do,
And you don't have to do this because I honor all paths,
And if you connect with the divine in a more masculine way,
Perfectly fine.
I connect with the divine as divine mother.
So for me,
I like to change the pronouns.
So this is the first way that you can activate this for yourself is to change the pronouns to fit you.
And since I am not a he,
I like to say she.
She that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.
So I'm going to read it to you and I'm just going to simply change the pronouns to the ones that work for me and try this on and see if it works for you.
And then the last time I do it is going to be the way that you can really activate it for yourself.
So this is Psalm 91 from my perspective.
She that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.
I will say of the Lord,
She is my refuge and my fortress,
My God,
In her will I trust.
Surely,
She shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler and from the noisome pestilence.
She shall cover thee with her feathers and under her wings shalt thou trust.
Her truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night nor for the arrow that flyeth by day.
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness nor for the destruction that wastest at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at thy side and ten thousand at thy right hand,
But it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Thus thou hast made the Lord,
Which is my refuge,
Even the most high,
Thy habitation.
There shall no evil befall thee,
Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
For she shall give her angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways.
They shall bear thee up in their hands lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and the adder.
The young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
" And then God responding and saying to me as a female,
Because she hath set her love upon me,
Therefore will I deliver her.
I will set her on high because she has known my name.
She shall call upon me and I will answer her.
I will be with her in trouble.
I will deliver her and honor her.
With long life will I satisfy her and show her my salvation.
Now isn't it fascinating just changing the pronouns how it changes the tone of the whole prayer.
So that's one option that you can do.
And again,
Do the thing that feels really good for you.
Now the final way that you can do this to really activate this particular Psalm for you personally is my favorite way and this is what Mother Mary did show me how to do.
And one thing I want to do is just go through a couple of these lines so that you understand from a metaphysical point of view some of the deeper meaning of this particular prayer.
So what is the secret place of the Most High?
What is that?
Well,
Paramahansa Yogananda said that it's your third eye,
The secret place of the Most High.
It means that when you are keeping yourself always thinking about the divine,
Having a high consciousness,
Not dwelling in negativity,
But keeping that energy as high as you possibly can,
That that's really the secret place of the Most High.
And when you do that,
You abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I also wanted to tell you,
What's the other line that is a little bit confusing.
So line number eight,
Only with thine,
Or actually it's verse number eight,
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
What does that mean?
It sounds like it's saying that you're going to see the wicked be rewarded,
But actually what it's saying is don't be fooled by what you're seeing.
It may appear that you're seeing the wicked or those who are not doing the right thing in the dharmic thing.
You might see that it's happening,
But don't be fooled by that.
So that line always confused me and I was really grateful when I understood the metaphysical meaning of that.
And let me see if there's anything else in here.
I think everything else is pretty self-explanatory.
But I wanted to also share this with you for the times that we're in right now.
And also for whenever you're listening to this podcast,
Anytime that you're feeling afraid or you're feeling a little bit like you could use a boost in your faith,
This is a really,
Really good Psalm to go to and read it.
And again,
You can just read it as it is,
Or you can make these slight changes that I'm making.
Now what Mother Mary recommended that we do to activate this is you make this your own Psalm.
So rather than saying he or she that dwelleth in the secret place,
You say,
I,
I,
You claim this as your own.
You can even use your name.
I Francis that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.
I I that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high.
And so this whole Psalm becomes an extremely powerful,
What I call soul affirmation.
It's even more than an affirmation.
You're really speaking truth into the depths of your soul.
And this brings out a soul response and it makes it so powerful because you then become King David.
You then become the person that wrote this Psalm,
This Psalm that's been recited over and over and over and over again throughout the millennia.
It's just so powerful.
So let's read it this way.
And I'm going to read it both ways for you.
I'm going to read it.
I with God as he,
And then I'm going to read it the way that I read it with God as she.
So I'll read it the first way the first time and you see which way it sounds better to you.
And I'm going to encourage you to repeat it after me.
I that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.
I will say of the Lord,
He is my refuge and my fortress,
My God in him will I trust.
Surely he will deliver me from the snare of the fowler and from the noise and pestilence.
He shall cover me with his feathers and under his wings shall I trust.
His truth shall be my shield and buckler.
I shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor for the arrow that flyeth by day,
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness,
Nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at my side,
10,
000 at my right hand,
But it shall not come nigh me.
Starting with my eyes shall I behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because I have made the Lord which is my refuge even the most high my habitation.
There shall be no evil befall me.
Neither shall any plague come near my dwelling.
For he shall give his angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways.
They shall bear me up in their hands lest I dash my foot against a stone.
I shall tread upon the lion in the adder.
The young lion and the dragon shall I trample under feet.
And then God responds,
Because you have set your love upon me,
Therefore will I deliver you.
I will set you on high because you have known my name.
You shall call upon me and I will answer you.
I will be with you in trouble.
I will deliver you and honor you.
With long life will I satisfy you and show you my salvation.
Now how does that make your heart feel?
Isn't that powerful?
When you're reading this and you're reminding your soul of the truth,
You're reminding your soul like,
Oh yeah,
When I dwell in the secret place of the most high,
I'm not going to be afraid.
When I remember who's watching over me,
Doesn't matter.
As long as God has my heart,
As long as God has my heart.
And that's the contract.
God says,
You give me your heart and I will give you everything else.
So one last time,
My friends,
I'm going to read it for you.
And this is my personal way of reading it,
Changing the pronouns to be more feminine and owning this as my own song.
And I encourage you to do the same thing.
Here we go.
I that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.
I will say of the Lord,
She is my refuge and my fortress,
My God,
In her will I trust.
Surely she shall deliver me from the snare of the fowler and from the noisome pestilence.
She shall cover me with her feathers and under her wings shall I trust.
Her truth shall be my shield and buckler.
I shall not be afraid for the terror by night or for the arrow that flies by day,
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness,
Nor for the destruction that wasted that noonday.
A thousand shall fall at my side and 10,
000 at my right hand,
But it shall not come near me.
Even with my eyes shall I behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because I have made the Lord,
Which is my refuge,
Even the most high,
My habitation.
There shall be no evil befall me.
Neither shall any plague come near my dwelling.
For she shall give her angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways.
They shall bear me up in their hands,
Lest that I even dash my foot against a stone.
I shall tread upon the lion and the adder.
The young lion and the dragon shall I trample under feet.
And God says,
Because you have set your love upon me,
Therefore will I deliver you.
I will set you on high because you have known my name.
I will call,
You will call upon me and I will answer you.
I will be with you in trouble.
I will deliver you and I will honor you.
And with long life will I satisfy you and show you my salvation.
Now let's just sit for a moment and feel the vibration of that powerful prayer,
That powerful soul affirmation.
Now this beautiful process,
You can activate any prayer you want to the same way.
You can do this with the 23rd Psalm.
You can do this with Psalm 100,
One of my favorite Psalms.
You can do this with any of them.
You make it your own by using the word I.
I who dwell in the secret place of the Most High.
I'm under the shadow of the Almighty.
Isn't that a beautiful sentiment?
So especially now,
My friends,
Any trials that you might be having,
This is like a healing balm for your soul.
It reminds you of the truth.
Now we have to do our part.
We have to,
If you go through this beautiful Psalm,
It says right here,
I have to abide in the secret place.
I cannot dwell in negativity.
I have to remind myself,
God is my refuge and my fortress.
I have to trust in God.
I have to remind myself that I will be covered with God's feathers and under God's wings.
That's my shield.
That's my buckler.
That's my security.
That's my safety.
And then I don't have to be afraid of anything,
Any of these things.
Even if I see it happening all around me,
Even if I see people that I know and love experiencing things,
It doesn't mean it has to happen to me.
It doesn't mean we want it to happen to other people,
But when we see it happening for the people,
Sometimes we get scared and we say,
Oh no,
Is that going to happen for me?
Now,
This Psalm reminds us,
No,
Not going to happen to you.
And even if you see people that don't hold the divine the way that they should in their mind,
These people that we call quote unquote wicked in the old Old Testament words,
They might seem like they're doing fine for a while,
But it only appears that way and it's temporary.
And then we remind ourselves,
No evil is going to befall me.
No plague.
Why?
Because I have angels,
Angels watching over me.
I have so many angels watching over me.
This is what this Psalm says.
This Psalm is asking you to own the truth.
I have so many angels watching over me that I'm not even going to stub my toe.
That's the level of this promise.
I will not even dash my foot against a stone.
I'm not even going to stub my toe.
Why?
Because the angels are going to scoop me up.
That's what happens.
And God always keeps the promises that are made.
As long as we keep our side of the bargain and we set our love upon God,
He,
She,
Whatever you want to call God.
With long life will I satisfy you and show you my salvation.
Long life,
My friends,
For whatever that means for you.
So this is Psalm number 91.
It is one of my favorites.
And in the show notes,
I will have a link where you can read the Psalm online.
And I will also put a place where you can download a copy of the way that I say it with the pronoun as she and with the word as I.
Remember,
It's just so lovely.
Now you can change it again any way that you want.
But if you'd like to get a copy of my version,
Just go to the show notes and you can see it there.
If you are sincere when you pray this,
I say pray it often and you're sincere,
You will start to truly magnify the miracles in your life because this is a miracle Psalm.
No doubt about it.
This is a miracle Psalm.
All right,
My friends,
Thank you so much.
It's always my great joy to spend this time with you.
And please always keep in mind what is the first thing that we need to remember about magnifying our miracles?
It's remembering that your miracle is already here.
God bless you,
My friend.
Bye bye.

A miracle! What are the chances I come across your podcast when I am feeling so disheartened and actually hear my own name Frances, used in this prayer, (which I rarely hear), and also hear my personal guardian Archangel Michael mentioned when I am asking for a miracle to lift me up.? Thank you for restoring my faith at this time and presenting me with another powerful tool for my Miracle Toolbox!

Wonderful insight! I love how you walked us through this beautiful and powerful Psalm. It’s one that I’ve read daily during my most difficult seasons of battling my mental illness. I’m definitely going to personalize it with “I” and “Rachel” from now on. It’s carried me when I’ve been in the trenches of my bipolar disorder, so during the pandemic I’ve continued reading it daily. I truly believe in doing so that God has kept me safe and healthy through this chaos surrounding us. Thank you, and grace and blessings to you! 💗

Thank you! I was a Roman Catholic priest at one time; I appreciated so much your reference your faith origins as a Catholic. I appreciated your energy, guidance and direction in this talk. It helped me let go of an old guilt. Blessings to you in your ministry. Brian Fredericksburg , VA. May 10, 20200 Hi Frances, thanks for asking. I left to give myself the opportunity/gift of marriage someday. I’ve now been married for awhile and am grateful. I continue to celebrate Eucharist periodically with one intentional community and with Dignity(gathering of LGBTQ persons). I am a therapist. Blessings! Brian

Thank you. I’ve been out of touch with the Psalms for a while, but this brings them back to my attention. I love the notion that “the dwelling place of the most high” is our own 3rd eye chakra, and that it’s all about raising our consciousness. Peace & blessings.

Personalizing this using “me” is incredibly powerful. Thank you. I’m not religious but appreciate universal spiritual truths. I always have difficulty with the idea that those who believe are spared - ie: won’t even stub their toe. My mom is devout and giving to all, yet is beset with physical difficulties. I never understand why her, since she personifies this idea of knowing god’s name and helping others. A constant conundrum for me. Thank you for this. I will carry this technique and psalm with me. Wonderful.
